or could have been because it was louder that you thought it was slower since your going the same acceleration but the engine is screaming.


There would also be the whole you lost velocity because you dump the exhaust. going open or going to big of a exhaust pipe could mean you losing velocity and mistaken it for "need back pressure"

in other words you traded low end grunt for high rpm power.
Mostly because you dont have enough exhaust pulse down low vs higher up.
not really a "need" for a back pressure a properly size free flowing exhaust is still better
