Default Make me feel good about this cam.BTR twin turbo cam in single turbo car

Ok long story I had a lifter fail. It basically needs a refresh, new cam, valve train stuff etc.

I found an aldreay complete 5.3 stroker built for boost.(363 ci) Complete with 799 heads, johnson lifters, btr springs, eagle forged crank, rods and mahle forged pistons. Looks great and has all the receipts.

I could buy this sell all my stuff and it would be close to fixing mine.

Only issue is the guy built it with twin turbos in mind so it has the btr stage 2 twin turbo cam. 226/235 .605"/.610" 114+5.

I run a larger t4 turbo. Its a comp triple ball bearing 92mm turbine, 88 billet comp wheel, 1.51 ar housing.

Would it be horrible if I just left it with the twin turbo cam? Its all buttoned up with covers, degree cam etc. I'd love to just drop it in and go but dont want to leave a lot on the table.

Whats the though process on these twin turbo specs? What makes it much different than a single turbo cam in general?

Thanks
Alex

If you could not make huge amounts of power with virtually any half sensible cam in an LS...something is seriously wrong.

It isnt a huge cam, you have a smallish engine and large turbine. I really dont see a major problem.

As it's a BTR cam, why not give him a shout ?

And of course...what is your definition of horrible ?

There is no doubt the engine will run and make power.

What he said. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I am running a BTR stage 2 single turbo cam with my twin 366's. I called LJMS and asked John if there was any benefit to switch out the cam since my build changed from big single to twins and he said run it. Car runs great and builds boost just fine. I would run it.

if I was you and I really wanted to know I'd call around "blind" with that combo and see what the usual suspects say. dont tell 'em you have the cam already, that colors the conversation. they are in the business of selling cams not warm fuzzy feelings...so you might be mistaken for a tire-kicker if you're "just lookin"

I was just looking over the rest of the build specs and it has mahle forged pistons that use the 4032 alloy. Im sure with a good tune it would be fine but it does worry me that they aren't the 2618. Ill be running 20-22psi, about 900whp.

Sorry to hear about the lifter.

That cam is okay for a big T4.

The Mahle 4032 pistons are stronger than the stock hyper pistons... and they live at 900rwhp. It comes down to the tune. If there is ever detonation, the 4032 will be slightly better than stock but nowhere near a 2618. Also check the gap on the rings. The 4032 pistons can run a much tighter gap (which is why they are recommended in NA builds primarily).

I believe he said rings are gap is .025. The builder said it was "setup" for 20psi.

Not sure why they wouldn't have just gone with some 2618 pistons. They are roughly the same price.

Damn, I really wanted to get this engine and now things are adding up against it. I will be running 20-22psi and making around 900whp like I did with the last engine.

I run a 230 / 239 115 cam on my 370 with stock 317 heads and it runs 9.1-9.2 on 15 psi with a single 76/92 bw. Cam will be fine but I've read comp turbine wheels with their straight trims are horrible on v8s.

I ended up getting a custom spec cam from Martin Smallwood. He really went in depth on his spec with me after he was given all the specs of the setup. Really excited about having a professionally spec'd cam.

I would have ran that original cam, numbers looked good. I would have to see exactly where EVO occurs though...I would imagine pretty early which wont be needed for the blowdown on a big big turbine.

What are your new specs? Or are you being super duper secret guy on that front?

Sorry to clear stuff up I never got that engine with that BTR cam.. I ended up getting my 6.0 redone and bought a custom cam.

I don't have the BTR cam for sale as I never had it.
