Scraping my cx racing intercooler. What's next?
After chasing 175° Iat on 8th mile pass with 93/meth I did some testing and learned that my CX has a 10 psi pressure drop. What's out there for a good price that will support 900-1000whp. I know bell and Garrett are good but those r expensive

Have you contacted Huron speed? I'm sure their race intercooler is much higher quality at a fairly good price. Ask Denmah about the vs race intercooler he's used a few with good results.

I would like something I can grow into if possible. However I can't justify spending $1000+ for and intercooler when my motor was only $300. I have heard good things about the treadstone 28x12.5x4.5

This may be true I don't keep track of who makes what intercoolers. CX racings intercooler was pretty decent when I used it on my SRT4. I used it on the stock turbo and a 50mm turbo and it held up pretty well. Then after my wastegate reference popped off and my 50 trim went ******* haywire and over boosted from 26lbs to 43lbs and I fucked up my ring lands I went with a fully built engine. Everything you could imagine and some shady **** you wouldn't even dream of (legit strapped one side of the block to the other in the oil pan off the mains to keep the block from expanding). I threw a 6262 on it and pushed the boost up to 31lbs. It became a monster and the CX racing intercooler was junk on that set up. I went with a mx racing intercooler and all was happy in the world again. Not some huge name brand but a company that specializes in SRT4's and new what a high performance intercooler needed. Now I'm on the LS platform and Burpn speed is that company. I have full faith that if you call them and explain your needs they will without a doubt tell you what you need whether it's their intercooler or not.

I always wondered if the actual cores were diff from a cheap core to an expensive one-is the design that much diff, to promote good airflow plus better cooling.
A few years ago I had a Procharger sheetmetal IC'er I used on an LS with a blowthru carb, as I remember it was like 1 psi loss at around 12 lbs. I remember doing some testing on another car, off brand IC'er, temps out of the Procharger were 330 degs, knocked down to 190 @ 18 psi after the IC'er.
In 40 deg temps last year, I made a couple passes with my turbo Buick, Treadstone 25 IC'er, IAT's were in the 140-150 range. I never checked psi loss, would have liked to. I kind of wonder if you have a large pressure drop, rem. the IC and reducing the boost to the same level you were getting the temps would drop just based on the comp. having to comp. less to get that boost. I would guess a turbo makes more heat than a Procharger, at least on low boost, might even out on higher boost. OK, to much coffee already, lol

There are huge differences between cores and multiple core designs.
This is now a very old article, but still good info. It doesnt cover really modern stuff like Garrett units, which are truly superb.

If you can afford a Garrett and they do a size that fits, then go for one.
If not, Bell, Treadstone etc offer cheaper stuff. Where the Garrett excels over the others is not so much how they flow for any given size...but also how well they cool. So if it is a low boost, low heat setup, then using those cores may not be as important and a cheaper Treadstone etc would be quite fine.

They're a little less than that new anyway ? can be cheaper than this on ebay ? If that size would work for the guy...buy the core and weld it onto his old end tanks after cutting them off.

Or maybe the 6" 1300hp one if I can fit it. Either way I'm going to have to have bungs welded on top to mount it and change up my cold side a little

I see what ur saying. The fact that my pt88 was making 30lbs through a cx racing core and although temps were really high they weren't so bad to where I think that once pressure drop is under control to say 2-3psi and the better cooling of something like a treadstone I think I will be ok with not spending $1500 on a core
And if you can go big....there are rarely any downsides ( other than it may impact on radiator cooling a little more if that is a concern )
