Got some more painting done. Did most of the underneath in the rear and got the funny car cage painted. I am going to do the funny car cage flat black and the rest of the cage in metallic silver
Yeah it was ahead of the curve 15yrs ago. Larry Jeffers built some nice ****. By the time I got it, the car had been sitting for a while with an occasional bracket race. He said it was made to go down a dirt road on a 28x10.5.lol
It will have 29.0x10.5 on it so I should be able to hook on ice.
Well had a great weekend. I finally finished up the rear section. I had some of the black come off on the edge. That was expected because I use stripper on the bars and am sure some got on the black. It will be an easy touch up. Looks like I can finally start putting the car back together soon. This thing would have already been making passes if the professional (sarcasm) painter hadn't screwed up and obviously not prepped before the paint.
Anyways, once I get moved the car will get done fairly quick. New house has a 1600sqft heated and cooled shop so weather wont be a problem.
Has 10ft ceiling so I am getting a nice 4post lift too.
Great build! Tons of work to paint a cage and it sure looks killer!
Thanks for the compliment. It has been hell getting two previous paint jobs off sitting under the car lol. I am 48y.o. and it takes about 10mins. To stand up straight after I have been under it for 4 or 5hrs.
Finally got the rear end buttoned up. Been a long process. To forever to clean because they sandblasted the inside when they powdercoated it. 2 of the studs were stripped, couldn't find a diff, vent the right size. Went to 1/2 in. bolts on the brake brackets because the threads were stripped.
Got the rear suspension all buttoned up. Hopefully finish up all the painting next week. The I can finally assemble it all. Car is so light, I had to keep a jack under the rear so the front would stay down on the pro-jacks.
Waiting to install the brakes until I get the liners in the tubs so I have a bit more to maneuver around.
Vacuumed out the inside and got all the stuff retape and ready to paint on Thursday. Finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Next time off I can actually put it back together.
Cage completely done front to back. 7hrs of continuous painting. By the time I would go over it the back bars had enough flash time to keep going. I will never paint another cage. I have done 1 and that's enough for me. Getting the paint of was hell and painting was almost as bad. Now I can finally put it back together for the 3rd time.
color is Ingot silver with lots of metal flake. Not the best paint for your first paint job. Anyways it came out great. 3 coats of self etching primer, 3 coats of sealer primer, 3 coats of paint, 3 coats of clear.
Man I can't even imagine how tough of a job painting that cage was. You did an excellent job!
hours and hours and hours. Lol I really took my time and prepped it cleaned it and cleaned before paint. I have one spot on a inside bar by the seat I screwed up when I fell getting into the car to paint. Hopefully the seat will cover it.
Thanks for the compliment.
