Default Cranking compression JFR218 cam in a 5.3

To anyone out there, what are your results? I️ see around 165 psi, throttle open with a good charge on the battery. The cam was degreed when installed and put in at 108 centerline. I’m used to seeing 185 psi+ so this just seems low to me. My 5.3 is roughly 9.5:1 also. Let me know.

I had roughly 195 psi with same cam in my 5.3, but I have flat tops.

Do a leakdown or squirt a small amount of oil in the cylinder first and see if it goes up substantially. Are all the cylinders fairly equal?

Does it have the original heads on it?

All cylinders are equal essentially. It’s got 243s on it. Leak down is tight. Less than 3%

Cam timing could be out, did you do it dot to dot?

Negative. I degreed it to 108 Icl as per the grinder.

dished pistons and 243s puts your compression around 9:1. That's almost a full point less than mine. I would say 165 is a bit on the low side but not by much.

Sounds like everything is healthy, just maybe lower static compression than you figured. Have the heads or block been decked? My CC is 150psi with my 6.0, 226/231 cam on a 115 sep. and -18cc dish and 70cc heads. Sounds like you verified everything you should. Run it!

Strange situation, I run a small battery (like lawn mower sized) and it did not like cranking my 11.1 LS1 over. When i swapped to a 243 headed L33 with an isky turbo grind, it spins it over like its on speed or something. After posing the question to a few, maybe its the turbo cams events that help the engine light off easier? I dunno.
