Default Proof you can polish a turd.

Putting together a test engine, Just an old 5.3 that will be used and probably severely abused to iron out any problems before I put the good motor in.
Right now plans are to drop this in my son in-laws 73 Nova to see how fast he can eat thru tires. We put a NA 6.0 in it last year and he tore up the streets all summer.
Should have it ready to run on the stand in a week or two.

Before scraping and paint.

Here is the engine that I will be using eventually, This pic is from when the previous owner had it built. I have to get it line bored and buy a bigger blower, The one in this picture is a 10-71 and the blower in the picture above is just a little 6-71.

It might be getting this old mechanical injection if it's not to worn out to convert to EFI.

It came from an old Hot Rod Magazine cover car from 1983. Built by Wally Larson.

Looks good, I would be a little worried about the crank snout, so little of it registers into the balancer, even with the Prochargers I worried, although it wasn't a problem. I did break a snout on a gen 1 with a 671, took out a lot of parts, lol. Prob the advantage the gen 3's have is the bolt runs into the crank deeper, so that might help. Should be interesting.

I'm not worried about the 5.3 but it's getting a crank support on the good engine. The good motor is the 408 pictured just above.
The reason I bought the engine is because the original shop that built it ran to much timing and also over tightened the blower belt, The end result was a broken main cap and wiped out Callies crank. The shop that built it and was tuning it when it blew up on the dyno didn't take any responsibility for the damage so he abandoned the build. That's how I ended up with everything.
I found a deal on a set of Katech billet mains ($200) that will also be pinned, Between the billet mains and a Callies Magnum crank and crank support I think it will be ok.
It's going to be a Pro-Street type build so it won't see a lot of sustained high rpm anyway. it made over 900hp at 5200rpm on the pull that killed it so I'll have more than enough power to play with.

I'm not sure what you are referring to, If it's the old injection setup then the answer is no, It was a one of a kind show piece. It's hard to hide a roots blower no matter what you use on it Carbs/ Throttle bodies/ Bird Catcher.
It's all going to fit under the hood of my stock 1950 Chevy truck but the engine sits low and they have tons of room.
Your best option would probably be a Kenne Bell setup, They sit low and the throttle body and air cleaner are on the front or side instead of the top, The blower itself is also not as tall as the old roots blowers.

It's making a comeback with EFI and they have been proven to make some serious power, I have an old sprint car that I'm making street legal. (DOT moves so slow lol) It's begging for stack injection.

Here’s a ‘64 Enderle I converted for my coupe. Fun project and runs great.
