Haven't seen any good track vids posted around here lately, have someone get some good footage for you.

If the elbow is directly onto the intake of the turbo/supercharger then absolutely it will not help straighten any airflow. It will have an adverse effect.

Perhaps if it was large enough relative to the inducer it might not matter so much but I suspect that isnt the case.

if you took Steve Morris' Provolute as an example of an ideal inlet path for a blower or turbo....the full shrouding a 90 deg elbow would add to the front of the unit has to be almost the complete polar opposite of a provolute and worst case scenario.

buddy on here borrowed a Go Pro so hopefully we'll get some vids. Weathers cool out, for FL anyways lol. I just want that 10 sec slip on the stock 4L60E to mess with you, truck doug, and gametech's heads

I guess I could leave the elbow and only have the filter pulled, but seems kinda dumb LOL. I get what you're saying, but its about as close as back to back data as I can get. I think its a 4" elbow off the inlet, but would need to do some digging to confirm on the D1SC.

I'd imagine the inducer on the D1 to be pretty big ? high 80's, maybe 90mm ? I think I recall my YSi being around 94mm, with a 102mm OD for the filter/pipe to slide over.

So being very basic....the outer tip of the inducer ( and indeed the entire half opposite ) has to draw air from across the the side closed to the air inlet. That cant ever be good.

Whereas with a bellmouth or open, or even a pipe...it can draw air more evenly from a larger source.

The first turbo Subarus came with a turbo with a 90deg elbow built in, the old TD05 they used was a pretty good unit for early 90's
But always hampered by that elbow ( well in those cases it was the cast elbow on the turbo itself...then they fitted another plastic elbow before a calming chamber...and then another elbow before the airflow meter lol

Simple mod was to cut it off and take a straight pipe out through the inlet manifold and to a filter. Inlet tract was still not great as it was small and it still needed at least one elbow but much further away from the turbo inlet

But what was once a 3-320bhp turbo max would now make 350+ quite easily and spool faster.

Its about an hour drive so just walked in the door about 15min ago and had a late dinner.....all is fine and well and nothing broke, but couldn't get that 10 but at least the 4l60e lives on. Couldn't get the sixty down like last time. Best was 11.5 at 125 on about 7 psi and shifting at 6000 rpms. Go stock 10 bolt and 4L60e!

On the plus side between my tuning and the cold air, the car picked up 3mph. Friend got a couple vids including an in-car when I drove by him. They're freaking huge file sizes though so I need to figure out how to get them in a size I can upload. Worst case I'll play it on my laptop and record it with my phone and upload that this weekend.

Only got 3 runs in in like 4 hours cause everybody knew the weather was cold and showed up. Some idiot grudge car decided to oil the track down too and went the ENTIRE length of the track.

First off, congrats on making it to and from the track with no issues. But something seems off here, you went 11.50 @125.... but it looked like you put about 6 busses on the turbo car

Lol yeah, A4 ftw at the track. It's his only car and a DD so he wasn't about risking breaking the 10 bolt. He was easing out and just working on shift rpm and trap speed. He went 120 later that night on an abismal 60'. Just out enjoying the good weather and letting it breathe.
We're going to turn the boost up some more and when he gets another DD this one will get more serious.

I will say I was pretty impressed cause it took forever waiting in line to get into the track and both car drove there, sat in line idling at about 185*, made some passes, and drove home. 93 octane only cars. Yeah not the fastest....but they live to drive another day. #streetcars.

Only time I broke at the track was in my old TA, AFTER I swapped to a 9". I told people I never broke a part at the track until I put the ONE FORD part on the car

You need to get the premium package. My car broke at beech bend (about 110 miles away)..... no charge. Package is only $129 yearly.
