I'm prob doing to get some flack but they are very efficent and can be built to 1000hp+ with lockup and the OD gear is really .67:1 vs the .70:1 of the 700r4/4L60e so you get slightly better mileage/rpm drop. Arrt Car builds them, CK performance (2004R godfather) etc. Its prob not worth it in your situation bc you have everything for the 4L60e but if I was starting fresh... plus they are non electronic so a simple TV hookup and your done. Also the 2004R has a much better 1st gear ratio of like 2.46 vs the 700R4/4L60e of like 3.06 so the rpm drop from 1-2 is much better for staying in the power band. FWIW I run a 2004R from a monte carlo, CK performance performance kit with 300M input shaft and other hard parts and it has no issues keeping up with my custom cam 5.3, ported heads and 15psi of furry from a billet VS 78/75. I wish I had some 3.27s or 3.08s in my ford 8.8 but I have 3.55s and I still knock down awsome MPG/rpms at highway speeds with the converter locked.

On your AFR, you wont be too worried after shooting the wiper fluid. I command 11.7ish and shoot about 750ml/cc of -20 blue wiper fluid on 93pump and even up to 15psi Ive had no issues and I run more timing than you. The wiper fluid really helps keep everything happy. I run about 12psi daily and on kill mode I shoot to 15psi on the EBC.

I wish the VS 78/75 was watercooled as I would think of running that option to help with IATs even more, a simple A2W setup could be used to help with the turbo cooling. I also have a pair of VS 61/62s and they are water cooled... hmmm.

I think you are the first I've seen get it all right

Appreciate it!

hello fellows. I wanted to update how things were going with this. First off, its still doing well. I drive the car a good bit. I think i've put over 4000 miles on the car since the turbo. I broke the trans twice earlier this year but once i went ahead and realized I cant be cheap about it.Since then it hasnt skipped a beat or slipped at all. Honestly I'm pretty impressed with how the trans is taking this.

Lately I've just been improving things. I put an Cold Case aluminum radiator in it. I Changed out the trans cooler and added a fan to it. Temps dropped over 30 degrees on my trans fluid because of this. I've heat reflective wrapped my intercooler pipes. Seems to help with heat at idle, I mean it dont make a huge difference by any means....but every little thing adds up.

I was running out of fuel supply as I moved up in boost. Once i got below half a tank, it would lean out. Did some research and found that after a certain point, the bucket, which acts like a sump, runs out of fuel because the volume is small. The fix? A hummer or big block fuel bucket, which is named the 8.1 bucket mod. Its not a direct bolt on, but the way i did it, was as close to factory like as I could. instead of using worm clamps, i used factory style stainless steel pinch clamps. instead of using rubber hose, I used the plastic high pressure flexible hose like the factory uses. This mod was well worth it and i've run it to 1/4 tank and it now holds pressure.

I put some new wheels on it for daily duties. These wheels are much lighter and are now staggered. I have a 275 wide tire on the rear now. 18x8 and 18 x 9 Flow One race spec F1's. 18lbs each. I'll include some pics below.

I've been concentrating on cleaning the car up lately. I buffed it, polished it and then ceramic coated it. It looks so good now. I'm having the front bumper painted next week because I have a bunch of rock chips that bother the crap out of me.

I'm now on 12-13psi on third gear and 11 psi in second. My very near future plans are:
-install my meth injection i already have
-new better looking tail lights
-build a single exhaust and use a Varex dual mode muffler sometimes I might be in the mood for it to be loud)

I have a bunch of other little things to do not performance oriented like install my remote start and my stereo system. and a few cosmetic items.

p.s. I CANT BELIEVE THIS MOTOR IS STILL TOGETHER! Lol

super cheap tires but work surprisingly well! I'm not trying to autocross or drag race with them although they hook up pretty decent from a roll. I highly recommend them if you looking for a cheap daily tire. quiet and ride good too

Soon as I get the meth installed. I kinda wanted my exhaust to be finished up too. But I may not have much time for that. I’m ceramic coating my manifold, turbine housing, crossover and most of my exhaust too. If you guys want I can take pics while I’m doing all that. I think I’m going single 3.5” all the way out the back and using a dual mode varex muffler.

I wanted to update you guys.

Redid the exhaust. Turned out pretty damn good except the welds. They aren’t bad but they look like three or four different people welded it lol. Why? Well my shop is a wreck and I couldn’t get comfortable while trying to weld. And I hadn’t welded since I built this turbo setup which was shockingly over a year ago. Time flies I tell ya. Damn.

anyways. I’m in the middle of a break, eating lunch. Finished exhaust earlier and now I took it and the downpipe off. I shouldn’t have been looking, but I have an intermittent squeak/rattle and I noticed the downpipe was sitting against frame. So now I’m having to whoop the pipe a little in that area. No biggie.

heres pics of the exhaust. Btw, old exhaust weighed 46.2lbs and new one weighs 19lbs.

The hose clamps were for mockup on the hangers.

Update: decided to take the car to the drag strip to see where I’m at. I’m a little gunshy from the last outing earlier this year so I threw it on the trailer last night just in case something breaks. In the process I managed to tear up a from wheel pretty bad. I didn’t have any help guiding me, it was raining and I was rushing so I grinded the face of the wheel on the rusted diamond plate fender. I was pissed. Anyways, wish me luck! I’m hoping for a 10.50-10.60 at 130+. That’s really all I set out for. I actually now have secret goal but I’ll discuss that later.

im trying to decide how I should go about it. I have three levels that I use. Level 1 went 11.50@123 last time out. It should be at least that fast or maybe a touch faster because I’ve made some positive (I hope haha) changes like a better cam, better tuning, better down pipe, added a little more pressure on the wastegate spring (added 1-2psi) but I did tighten the stall up By 200 rpm. That’s probably the only negative but that shouldn’t hurt me. I also have lighter front wheels and lost some weight with a lighter exhausts, I dunno. These bench racing maths usually never play out like you think. So whatever.
Then I have my level 3 I use. It’s a good bit stronger than level 1. I say it should run at least a 10.90 with that level. And then level 6. It’s a good step from three. So I dunno what level I’m gonna try first.
