Default Turbo 5.3 with a Glide

Who’s doin it? Let me know you’re experiences. Mods, weight, times etc. I’ve got a 1.80 glide I’m thinking of going to from my TH400. Yes it’s a driver at 3400 lbs. PTC converter, small tire.

I am doing it at 3800lbs, its easy, and simple. I went from a 80e to a glide, and am happy soo far.

Best 60ft is a 1.35 with a 3.25 rear gear, swapped to 3.50s a few weeks ago but haven't been back to the track yet.

Last year my car was 3400lbs, 6.0 with twin cast 66's, 1.8 glide with a 15-0 PTC converter, 31" tires, 3.50 gear. Drove great on the street. Went 1.31 60' with some suspension issues.

This year I am 3360lbs, 388ci with twin 76's, 1.8 glide with same converter, 33" tires and 4.10 gear. Car drives even nicer and more docile on the street. Has gone 1.34 60' so far 2 times at the track. Sneaking up on the launch trying not to wheelie.

Love the glide!

5.3 with a PTC 1.80 glide. With 15-35 stator went 1.41 60ft and 5.79@123mph. Only leaving on 9psi and working on dialing in suspension. 4300lbs with twin 6766s at 28psi. I just swapped to a 16-35 stator to see if it helps with shift drop. It was 1600rpm before and street testing shows about 1200rpm now. I also swapped from a 80E. The glide drives so much better and im able to use more power than the 80E. Cruising rpm at 70mph is around 2700rpm with 3.42 gears and 30" radial.

1.80 glide and 3.50 rear gear. You know my best times and my best 60’ currently is 1.37 but it goes 1.39 consistently. Cruising 70mph is right around 2800 rpm.
At your weight and with air to control boost I think you’ll love a glide. You’ll be able to leave with the turbos fully lit.
I like the 3.50 gear for cruising but my calculations suggest I’d be better off with 3.70 gears. I’ll probably go to a 26” tall 235 tire which is like going 3.70 with a 28” tire from my 28” and 3.50 gear. It’ll be a cheaper and easier way of testing whether 3.70 is the right gear for the dragstrip with a 28” tire.

Made a gear change from 3.25 to 3.50s and going to a prep'ed track helped. I had only been on a "low prep" track at a local NO TIME 1/8th mile race previously. I also added 3 additional holes to my lower control brackets on my rear end housing to get a more aggressive LCA angle since the car sits low.

Just sold my th400 with a 2.1/1.4 ratio and bought a 1.64 first gear glide to calm the car down, also wanted to try to drop some weight out of the car and the glide was a good bit lighter.

Haven’t regretted the glide one bit since putting it in. I drive mine on the street also.

But a second gear leave transbrake in the t400 and leave it. You can leave with the 1.40 second. Works great with a 4.10 to 4.30 gear. Personally in a heavy car I would use a 4.29 gear and the 1.4 2nd gear..with less wheel speed your top end will be more controlled/stable on a junk track too.
