Default Dumb question, 02 5.3 VS 06 5.3 for boost

I am looking at these two engines for my chevelle. I will be going for around 600whp with a turbo setup. I have the ability to pick up either a 2002 5.3 with 130k miles on it, or a 2006 5.3 with 170k miles on it. Both are the same price. What would you guys do? Should the 06 5.3 have the gen4 rods and pistons in it?

Go for the 2006 motor, put a new oil pump and new O ring and boost away, of course with springs, cam etc.

Its either drive hour and half more for the newer engine with lower miles, or drive closer for the older engine with lower miles for $50 more. Would the newer engine have the beefier rods and pistons? Would the 06 have DOD?

if your looking at coast what wiring and pcm are you going to run for me it is way easer to find gen3 stuff and my guy that converts it to stand alone charges more for gen4 to convert gen4 to run on gen3 harness and pcm is more money also

I'd get the 2006. DOD didn't come out in the truck 5.3's until mid 2007 with the NBS.

I just picked up a 2006 LM7 out of a Tahoe for the same reason you have. Cost me $400 and was 15 miles from my house. The rods are way beefier in the 04+ engines than the older 5.3's. Plenty of people have still made power with both but I wanted the best internals I could get. Mileage isn't an issue if it was maintained.

Depending on the price, get both. You’ll get greedy and will need it. Lol
