Default cant make gate spring psi

Hey guys , having some trouble building boost on my setup.

5.3/glide/s480 t4 1.25ar
water intercooled.
with the 7psi spring in I could make 6psi , but no more regardless of my e-boost control solenoid which I had set at 70/100.
I have since put in a 14psi spring which today made 8.8psi .
I will say the solenoid gets boost pressure from the turbo comp housing
and my boost gauge is connected to manifold. (im not sure this would equate to that much loss)

pressured my system checking for boost leaks , was one minor one which I am fixing but don't think this is causing that much.

also on my previous gear setup I thought I was making 11psi because that what my boost gauge memory recorded but after checking data logs I realised it was only spiking above 6psi after I completely let off the throttle. ( is that normal )

What's your exhaust setup? Seems like either a plumbing issue to the controller or too much back pressure.

3.5" dump , had 1 single 3.5" muffler at the rear. I have since added an other muffler but problem was there before.

vac line goes from comp housing to solenoid , solenoid to atmosphere, solenoid to gate .
14psi spring ,
I have also ran a manual boost control and had same issues

hooker ls turbo manifolds, 2" crossover pipe

Have you tried running from the compressor housing straight to the side port of the W.G. and vent the top port?

I have line from compressor housing to bottom wastegate port and too wastegate port is vented. I had 12lb springs only giving me 8psi. 15lb springs gave me 12psi.

i added a manual controller. Compressor housing to controller than controller to same wastegate port. Now I can control boost fine.

before when I had my wastage dumped into my exhaust I would have 8lb springs give me 12psi boost. Now they are dumped to atmosphere and I’m fine.

I will have to try turning up the boost now with the 14psi spring and see if I can get 14psi, ill try my manual controller too. but yeah with the 7psi spring and boost control 70% I only made 6psi. I was thinking though that the backpressure was too strong for the lighter spring

I have a 60mm gate on my Caprice PPV and was experiencing a similar issue. With the "5#" spring it would only make about 2# (reference on turbo), put their "12#" spring in and made 2.5#. Took the wg off and put in the 5# and 14#, moved the reference to the intake and now it makes 9#.

Compressor housing will always yield less boost than the manifold. If you want to see the real effect, T into that compressor housing reference for your boost gauge.

Start with a bench test of the gate - sloppy has a video . Good to know it is working properly. Definitely normal to see less boost than it has tested to , backpressure is the variable. Can you draw a little picture of your waste gate plumbing ? That should help with diagnosis, as previously stated I would try compressor housing to bottom of diaphragm , top vented and see what happens

Just a guess but is that the ring around the valve in the wastegate ? Then yes

Ok for one... coming from the compressor housing to the gate will always yield less boost than a vac reference from the manifold. You have piping and intercooler losses.

So if your making 7psi at the compressor you may only end up with 5 at the intake due to losses. If you reference from the intake, you will make 7psi at the manifold with a 7 psi spring.

I'll be going to manifold and plugging the Bov as well.
but I don't think 14-9 that's a 5psi drop

Not unless that intercooler is TERRIBLE 😂

but it should net you another couple psi at least

Ok so I have plugged the BOV , and ran gate direct to manifold.

@ 5800rpm
9psi boost gauge

ecu measured 9.4 on my data log
11.0afr
19* time

looks like it fell off but could just be a delay after taking foot off pedal..

I put some eboost control into that 30/100 to the solenoid and got 9.1psi on the gauge
