Default Did I mess up?

Hey guys!

I just built a turbo manifold for my old C10. I’m concerned about where I placed my wastegate. Check out the pictures and let know if you think it might be ok?

specs on manifold:
-3/8 flange SS 304
-primaries 1.9” O.D. 1.68” I.D. sch 10 SS
-log 2.875” O.D. 2.6” I.D. Sch 10 SS

Turbo:
VS racing cast 7875 T4
VS racing 44mm wastegate

fuel:
E85, walbro 450, 1000cc injectors

goal is 10 psi and have the ability to control the boost without spiking.

Tell me what you think.. Is the wastegate in a terrible location or am I overthinking it?

Although not perfect it isn't bad either. Looks acceptable to me. Depends on how low you are trying to get the boost.

Thanks for the relief! Id like to run as low as 10 lbs of boost. 5.3L, SS2 cam, VSR 7875.

Run it and see but I suspect that you may have a problem keeping boost down , not any priority to flow through the gate as it's on the inside of a turn . Set up some safeties in the tune in case it goes way over intended levels

Thanks for the response GMCGreg! I’m running the factory ECM with hptuners. Do you have any suggestions on boost controller/ wastegate spring? I’d like to stay around 10 lbs. 5.3L/ SS2 cam/ VSR 7875 cast turbo.

I would recommend that you rig something up to bench test the gate - low pressure regulator and gauge . That way you know the gate works and approximately what pressure it opens at instead of going by a springs rating. Usually going to yield a lower boost # than the bench test value because of back pressure. Start with the lightest spring you have and see if you can control boost at that level before you put more spring in it. Don't have to have a controller if you're able to get the # you want and don't need or want to be able to change on the fly . Many using the aem - me too , can have 3 levels , gate only , a , b, and scramble ( button or switch activation) are you planning on tuning it yourself?

Awesome! I’ll give that a try. I’m planning on street tuning it my self. I’m using a wide band, SD, and 3 bar map. It’s all new to me, but I plan on backing the timing way down (15 degrees). I’ll try to the AFR right and then watch for knock/ read plugs.
