02 WS6 - D1SC - Recommended changes?
I don't have complete specific details on every part since this was bought, not built, but if someone wants to go through the upgrade list and tell me what I might consider changing, I'm interested. This is just a weekend toy for a 50 year old man. No hard launches. No drag radials or slicks. Still have the stock rear with 3.42 gear.
Stock LS1 block and crank (should be good to 1000 easy)
Fuel pump upgraded (no specs)
Trickflow 225cc 65cc heads, ported and milled
YellaTerra Roller Rockers
COPO Lifters
Dual Springs (no specs)
Callies forged rods (no specs)
Ross forged pistons (no specs)
Cam - 229/238 .615/.615 115 +3
FAST 102 intake
102 Throttle Body
LS2 fuel rails
80 lb injectors
D1SC SC, dual air/air intercoolers
100% meth injection, alky systems
McLeod RXT twin disc into stock T56
LT Headers, high flow cats, cutout before rear axle
I think that's the bulk of the power goodies. All the usual rest of the supporting hardware, ARP, Melling oil pump, etc. SD tune on 93 octane.
With the stock ATI J bracket you will probably get some belt slip when pushing the D1 to get more boost (more head unit rpm)
IMO if an Aster Bracket or ATI new and improved J Bracket belt tensioner assembly isn't in your budget then I would suggest a larger crank pulley from 7.65 to 8.65. The larger crank pulley adds more belt wrap while at the same time allows one to downsize from the stock 4.5 head unit pulley to a smaller pulley but not quite as small if you were to keep the 7.65 pulley.
Pretty sure you will need a smaller head unit pulley. But smaller means less belt wrap - the smaller the pulley the less belt wrap. You want it as large as possible but still reach the desired boost level. The 8.65 crank pulley allows you to use a larger head unit pulley than the 7.65 crank pulley.
So with a larger crank pulley you gain belt wrap and also with a not so small head unit pulley.
Gates also has a new and improved blower belt which won't stretch, if any, compared to the Gates easily identified 'Green' belt.
As the blower belt heats, it expands and stretches. As a result you get belt slip. The Gates RPM product line, because of the materials in the belt, is said not to stretch. Nor do you have to adjust it as tightly compared to the 'Green' belt. Both of these features should improve belt life and perhaps even bearing life on the head unit.
Don't know if ATI contracts with Gates now and rebrands the RPM belt as their product. You might call and ask.
If you decide to on either of the above, IMO, Bob at Brute Speed is your best source for ATI products and technical advise.
IMO, if you choose to go the belt tensioner route, opt for the ATI tensioner J bracket assembly. Check with ATI or Bob, but I think it comes with an 8.00 crank pulley.
Other: "Trust" no longer posts - did get over 750 rwhp with twin 4.5 intercoolers but had overheating issues compounded by extremely hot summer ambient temps in Oklahoma (mid to high 90's).

Get another hotwire kit and wire in the hobbs to come on at 5 lbs. and you'll be set.
Great info. I'll tuck that away if the need arises in the future.
This setup is actually very close to where I ran for a very long time (18 years and 50k+ miles) without any issues. It is a nice, stable, place to park a D1SC.
