Default Anyone do a "roll your own" CO2 setup?

I'm quickly realizing I need a CO2 system in my Firebird for a couple of different things, and the cost of a complete set up is a bit ridiculous. I have done some searching and I can piece together all the parts for around $100-$125. I see nothing in any complete automotive kit that makes it worth a 200% mark up. Has anyone built their own system?

For gate control?

Its probably better to utilize a viar air compressor and tank IMO

I'm new to all of this stuff, so what would you make you choose that over CO2? I didn't like the idea of a compressor running constantly. Most people say they're only refilling the bottle once a year, which isn't a big deal. I have a compressed gas company a couple of blocks from my place, so refills will be simple.

I have a gallon tank and a air comp, runs very occasionally. I also have a whip on it so I can fill my tires with it.

I run a Viair setup as well, works excellent and compressor only runs occasionally and even then, it's only for a minute or two.
I also have mine on a switch so if it's off I'm running on the wastegate spring only.

One of the reasons I want to run CO2 is that my boost activated cutout does not allow the turbo to build boost. It should work correctly, but as of yet it only allows about 6 lbs. of boost and makes the car feel choked. I think there's a negative feedback loop happening, where the valve won't open unless there's boost, and the turbo can't spool to make boost because the valve is shut. So I'm going to run CO2 to the valve with a MAC solenoid inline that will be triggered by the Holley and use that to open the valve when I need it to open. The added bonus will be better wastegate control with CO2.

Its all home brew equipment that you can get cheaper on your own vs. buying from a "motorsports" company.

Honestly, I preferred an electric cutout because then I can open it whenever I want.
I loved opening it and idling through the car cruise ins.
If you place it downstream from the turbo a little bit, they can live a long time.
@rotary1307cc did a CO activated cutout that he can manually open that is pretty cool.
