Default Anybody have problems with their Autometer guages?

About two months ago, I installed Autometer boost and fuel pressure gauges.

My fuel pressure gauge freezes about every other time I start the car. When I see my gauge stuck, I turn off my car and restart it, and that will get the gauge working again. I think sometimes it doesn't go through its self-check at start up . Anybody else had this problem?

My boost gauge drops to vacuum every time I shift. If I go through the gears fast or semi-fast, the gauge will not go back into the boost section until I pause in between shifts. If I go through the gears slowly, and slowly ease into each gear, the boost will come back after every shift. I thought I was possibly having belt slippage, but I recently installed a SDCE 8-rib set up and I am still having the problem. However, I don't think I am having belt slip because the cars pulls like a ***** even when the gauge goes into vacuum after a fast shift. Anybody else have similar problems?

the gauge should read vacuum after you shift as the BOV should vent the air to prevent compressor surge, then it should build it back up. is it that its not building back up after a shift? is this electronic or mechanical gauge?

which FP gauge do you have? they recalled the partial sweep gauges a while ago.

My gauges do not say what model they are. They just say Autometer on the face. I will have to go home and look at the boxes they came in to see what model they are. They have black faces on them if that helps.

I have a mechanical boost gauge and an electric fuel pressure gauge.

Yes mine did the exact same thing, I posted about it here once and suggested that it may be that I had the "switched" power wires connected to my delayed power off wires (like how the stereo and interior lights will stay on for awhile after you shut off the car, or until you open the door) anyway, they said that shouldn't cause a problem, well I finally got sick of having to turn off my car and open the door then restart to get my guages to work so I hooked up to a "true switched" power wire straight from the fuse box, haven't had the problem since.. I suggest you check that first..

lemmie know if it works.

Make the electrical connection for your guages like this: there is an empty spot near the bottom left corner of the fuse box on the inside of the car on the driver's side. Use a pair of plyers (sp?) to flatten out a speaker connector, and then crimp it onto your power wire, then plug it into that spot on the fuse box. You can use a ring or spade terminal, but a flattened speaker connector fits tighter and gets a better connection.

We put a Cobalt Boost guage in a friends Ford truck just for looks since he doesn't have a blower and he has issues with it sticking at 10psi. I had to actually pull it out of the pod and disconnect the molex plug for it to reset.

you dont need to look up the model numbers for the fuel gauge. is the needle piviot in the center (full sweep) of the gauge with electronic senders, or does the gauges needle piviot towards the bottom (partial sweep) with some what of a mechanical sender?
they recalled the partial sweeps.

and it could just be you tapped the wrong wire.

this is what I did, except I just used a spade connector.

Now that makes sense! I love this forum.
I have the full sweep fuel pressure gauge wired to the fuse box, but it sounds like I have it going to the wrong fuse. I will rewire it to where "Got-r-done" suggest.

Thanks for all the input from everone.

Now I just need to figure my boost gauge problem out. Again last night, I rolled through the gears and paused a bit between shifts, the boost gauge would go back into boost after each shift. However, if I got on it going through the gears, soon as I shifted into second, the boost gauge would go into vacuum and stay frozen there until I let off for a little bit. Its as though the needle freezes in vaccum and doesn't come alive again until I let off.

if you have a turbo timer, that could be the problem... it is for mine... if I stall out, and restart... fuel gauge doesn't reinitialize due to turbo timer.... thus, acts dead.
