Default Build or buy a turbo kit.

Trying to figure out if i want to build or buy a turbo kit. If i built it,it might end up as a twin setup.. If i did a single setup where should i place all the exhaust tubing. Behind the tranny or what. How fair should the waste gate be from the turbo or does it matter. Is it worth me doing a twin set up(more to go wrong). I have built all sorts of stuff. This would be the most important thing i have made. All welds would be tacted and then Tig welded.

I say build your own, but it demands a tremendous amount of patience and time to do, but I think you can do it for cheaper than a kit as long as you know what you are doing ahead of time so you dont have to buy things more than once. A kit saves you time pretty much.

I say build it yourself, because everyone that has tried has great, instant success. There are no pitfalls, no blown motors, and no slow cars. Easy as pie. Having a professional do it would be stupid. And the best thing is that you will never have to mess with it again, just set it once and forget it. No hoses ever blow off, no tuning issues, will run real consistent, perfect idea. Go for it!!!

I dont understand...6" inches from the "kit". A Kit is a multitude of parts. From what I see so far, you better buy a kit, bot build one. If you have the winter to study , learn, and view many kits , you probably can give it a shot, but dont expect to not have to re-do some thing, if not most things....turbos are messy, from upgrading most every part in the car to tuning to desogn...theres nothing easy, but in a way its simple... bottom line...takes money, patience and courage to go it alone.

I should have worded it better. The WG on the exhaust piping is not sitting on one of the primaries. It sits really close to the turbo. What i want to know is it more efficient to have the WG closer to the turbo or to the exhaust manifolds. Same with the BOV, better to have it closer to the turbo of the intercooler. Or does it matter?

It doesnt matter that much if the WG is next to the turbo and several inches away..What mattes the most is that the waste pipe is angled so the waste enters the pipe very easily. I assume you will dump back into the exhaust...whats most important is the waste dumps in at least 18" downstream from the turbo. You technically dont need a BOV, but that puts the turbos at a little risk if you let of suddenly and consistantly. Location of the BOV is not critical and isnt usually located bbetween the turbo and intercooler in the kits I see..usually after the IC before the TB...
You need to be thinking about manifold design. Start with Corky Bells book "Maximum Boost". Most helpful, but not the end all.

Thanks man. Do you have a link for the manifolds. That is the only part that i do not want to make. I will if i have to but it know it will be a bitch.
