Hey guys, what do you think of this?
but the dealer gave a good deal regardless. Anyway I have a couple thousand saved up and was looking into forced induction with a conservative tune to not have to touch on internals...yet. I found a local shop that sells ($3500) and install ($500) a get this (Rear-mounted turbo kit) supposed to go where the muffler is found. The kit is set a 5psi and they claim 450hp to the wheels. They have some videos on the website + explainations. The kit does not include intercooler. I wanted to know what you guys thought about this whole gig. Is it worth it or do you think it is faulty and farfetched. here is the website http://www.jlturbo.com/
Please let me know, your opinions will help with my choice.
By the way, I have considered a supercharger but the thought of a turbo trans am just gives me goosebumps.
You'll find what you need plus 10 to the 2nd power multiplied by 3.67
A lot of info on that kit here. My opinion on the kit is that if it reaches your power goals, and you don't mind giving up your exhaust (which I am sure is the stocker so it doesn't matter) then yes go for it and build around the STS kit.
BTW I wanted a WS6 also, but could only find a new Trans Am in my area at the time and I was upset like you, but I came to realize the WS6 option is a waste of money IMO
being that you came to LS1Tech you'll all of a sudden get the urges to change everything. And if you want a hood, American Sports Car Design "ASCD" (a sponsor to the right) sells the exact WS6 hood for 15% off.

By the way, I bought the car as a Certified used GM vehicle. I had a chance to look at the exhaust. The tips say Borla and the cats are closer to the hearders than my stock LT1 Trans am exhaust. Don't really know if it is a cat-back but it does sound slightly louder than stock and I am getting some backfire the first 5 minutes of operation on a cold engine.

Sounds like a Borla system to me with stock manifolds. With the STS kit, you don't need that Borla anymore, you could probably sell it for a couple hundred bucks, not really sure what they go for.
That $500 sounds extremely reasonable, is it a dyno tune or a mail order tune...Either way its cheap, but dyno tunes are usually more effective.
BTW I paid $550 for my dyno tune alone, but I am in NJ where everything is more expensive

One last thing you should probably know: from my limited knowledge of FI, I have come to know that FI has a tendancy to break stuff, nothing major, just things like transmissions, rear end, and motors
, but the STS does seem pretty conservative especially with its 5psi, so you should be ok for a long time if you don't go too crazy, but its always good to be prepared Last edited by 2002 Trans Am; Oct 19, 2004 at 12:15 PM.
