Default expanding intake pipe!

Hey guys, I just got my Procharger put on my truck and I have got a question. I am pushing about 13psi. of boost, and when I give it gas from under the hood, my intake pipe after the intercooler is expanding big time. I made it out of some 4" rubber elbows and aluminum 4" tubing. At first I was popping seams everyday, then I put some Tbolt clamps on the seams and that seems to do the trick. But when I get into boost, the rubber elbows look like they are going to blow up! Am I loosing boost by wasting energy on making the rubber swell? I do have about 8 rubber elbows. Does silicone hose for turbos not swell as much? More stable? Any suggestions?

that elbow going into the intake Is Crap I suggest going with two 4" mandrel exhuast pipes with some 4' silicone couplers
That whole Ati kit is pretty Crappy In my opinion

Silicone hoses, elbows, ect.. for induction are reinforced by fibers between the layers kind of like high pressure hoses. Definately the way to go. Try HTS they have high quality stuff.

hey GMC SKI, I am not using the ATI kit on the throttle body. I bought some rubber elbows in 45º and 90º cominations, with aluminum tubing connecting them. I bought it all from www.airflowonline.com I basically wanted to know if silicone would be stiffer than the rubber. The rubber is very thick but very soft as well.

By the way, no one mentioned anything about if the swelling of all of these joints really looses boost or not. Please comment.

I just checked out airflo.com and it links you to the same place where I bought my rubber elbows. They are strong, but I guess 13lbs. boost is too much for them to handle??

I am no Expert BUT I would say NO expanding elbows wont cause you to loose BOOST!

AND yes The Silicone stuff will not expand anyhting like the rubber does. Not sure if its stiffer BUT it will not expand!

You can loose some boost........ my intake would swell on the dyno like a huge baloon....... and near peak boost it would just stop rising way to early...... then on the next run it would blow off....... the swelling is not a good thing........ Give Jim @ High Temp Silicone (HTS) a call he will take care of you.

Thanks guys. I think I will get rid of at least 2 of my elbows and use welded mandrel bent piping and then get silicone couplers with tbolts. That should take care of it.

I've bought quite a bit from Jim @ HTS too.

Rubber elbows on ANY forced induction is a bad idea. Get some mandrel elbows and silicone couplers to do it right.

Thank you all for the kind words!

The fact is that a reinforced silicone hose will always outperform any non reinforced rubber elbow in all regards except for price. Silicone by nature is a weak material, but by reinforcing the wall with 4 plies of woven fabric we can achieve a much higher burst pressure. Nitrile elbows are good to about 220ºF but after that they tend to take a pretty steep compression set. I would NEVER use EPDM on anything but coolant under the hood. Oils and Fuels aggressivley attack EPDM and it wouldnt last.

By far the cheapest method is to use a mandrel bent tube, 2 couplers and 4 t-bolts (If you can get the bend under $20.00). If you cannot get a good deal on the bend, it is cheaper to go the silicone elbow.

I need a 90 thats more like a 105 degree but then goes stright down after the bend!

I may Buy a 180 and Cut/fit it and then get it welded! That may work?
