Default If an external wastegate went bad......

what would happen? would it lock in an open postion and bypass all the exhaust energy past the turbo? No boost?

im still trying to hunt down this mystery of the missing boost. i can hear it spool, but not a lot. it wont get past a notch under 0psi. checked all the compressor related tubing already on the sts kit. had my mufler guy check for exhaust leaks... none. i dont know what else it could be.

Or lock shut and overboost the motor?

did you check your manifold gasket and manifold but i would suppose that you should be able to here a leak that way

Since boost is what is opening the wastegate, it will most likely fail closed. This would would cause a over pressurization (depending on the wastegate setting).

If the gaskets were leaking couldn't i still see a little bit of boost pressure. maybe 1 or 2 psi?

so if the gate goes bad, i shud still get sum pressure then rite?

im sooo stumped...

Make sure the ring that goes in between the wastegate and the flange is seated in right. You should be able to seat it in the wastegate flush before bolting it on. If its wrong, it will have a leak. Do you have the gasket on?
Did you put a manual gauge on the intake to see what it shows?
You can take the wastegate off and push the valve with your fingers to make sure it moves.
Did you do the install of a shop?

Shop did the install.

It was working with the stock 5.3L but after the 383 engine rebuild things haven't been the same.
