Default Fi 408...

I'm thinking about planning a 408 and most likely a supercharger (ati)...i'd like some of you guys that have experienced these setups or know a little bit about them to help me out...i'm on a budget so make it as cheap as possible...i want near 650-700rwhp...i assume i could run a D-1SC with the 408 and a FMIC...however, i just need to know how much it is going to cost...if you could break it down as much as possible that would be great...i don't want to make the mistake of buying thing i don't need

If your plan is 650-700rwhp then just forge your engine and pick up a good heads/cam setup with it. The idea is to have the motor flow as much as you can so u can make max power with the lowest possible psi readings. I think 14-16psi from the D-1SC with Griffen or OBX FMIC and a good 8rib tension setup like the one SDEC sell would get u there if u have a good heads/cam/headers/exhaust setup. I would say the whole thing will cost u close to 8-10k for good parts.
Break Down:

8 rib D-1SC with FMIC and SDEC tension: $4500-5000
Fuel System: $800-1000
Heads with Dual Springs: $2300
Cam 224/230 .585 .595 114 or 230/236 .590 .610 114: $400
Forge pistons (8.8-9.1 C/R): $500-800
Froge Rods: $600
ARP main and heads bolts: $300
Bearings etc...: $300
I would get Water/Alky injection to allow u to run more timing on the upper end: $400.
Then u have Labor which is going to be around 2-3K for all the things above installed.
Then tuning for $300-600.
If u want a 408CID then you can add another $1000-2000.

Not sure what your budget is, but I wouldn't start a 408 + D1 project with under $12-15K available to spend. A full 408 long block can easily be $10K by itself. Plus driveline + blower..

how so...i can get a fully forged 408 short block for 4000...heads for 2000...cam for 500 (custom futral grind)...thing is my engine has 100k miles on it...and i'd rather spend 500$ more to go with a 408 than a 346...i can have more low end torque...the only labor charge i am going to have to pay is the r&r of the engines (i can build up the engine from shortblock to longblock)...i can then sell my engine to someone else...or at least parts of it to help pay for the other one...i don't see why i shouldn't get a 408 instead of a 346...i'm not seeing the price difference to be that much...the tune would only be like 150 since i already had my current setup tuned...should i just get the 6.0L heads from tea or somewhere like that...

here's my proposed breakdown tell me what you think i should add/subtract/change

HPE 408 Shortblock or equivalent - Eagle forged 4.000 stroke crankshaft, Eagle forged 6.125 H Beam Rods, Mahle pistons. Fully balanced and blueprinted with a 1 year 12k mile NO POWER ADDER warranty. Motor must be installed by a certified technician for warranty to be valid. NO CORE $4000
?Brand? stg 3 6.0L heads w/gaskets - ~$2,000
Futral Custom Cam - $500
Timing chain/oil pump..etc... - free from current setup (brand new)
Fuel - $1000 haven't even looked into it
Then the supercharger - ~$5000

Man i quit, this is too much money haha...it's going to be a good $15,000 after all is said and done...i guess i'm stuck getting a N/A 408 for about 5,000

It's very easy to underestimate total cost..

Here is an example of a project I am working on. (Twin Turbos)

{ This list is in no particular order. Just items off the top of my head }

Base TT kit -- $9,500
Injectors -- $ 450
Gauges -- $ 400
Driveline -- $3,000
ARP bolts -- $ 150
Pushrods -- $ 100
Linelock -- $ 150
Meth kit -- $ 800
Heads -- $1,250
Cam -- $ 350
Tires -- $1,000
Labor -- $2,000

Subtotal -- $19,150

Over $19K and we haven't even started talking about forging the motor..

Cheers,

Mark

i'm hoping to go the blown 408 route with the GTO in the future. I am counting on at least $15K in the blower and engine alone before it's done. Probably close to $1K for a good clutch setup. At least another $5K in driveline. The blower is the first step, and i'm looking at around $6500 just for that after i add in the injectors, fuel pump, harmonic balancer, and tuning...I'm going to try to tackle the install myself. Blower is about 12 months off, after that i'll just build it up to my eventual goals as **** breaks.

I would figure $20k for a 408,blower,fuelling,driveline.

Why not a 346?I've had 2 cars recently put down 670rwhp with forged/blower setups.I would expect 750-800rwhp out of a 408

well because i'm not seeing the 346 being cheaper by very much...everywhere i am looking i am seeing a 408 like 500$ more than the 346...but basically i want a faster car than i have now and not spend very much money...at all...so i guess i'm going to have to go na...also another reason i was going to go with a 408...use na then change a few things around for the fi...since it would be awhile before i have the money for it...and i hate how much engine has very little power below 3,000...well it has power but it's not linear in respect to the top-end...not even close i also don't really care a whole lot for the driveability of the cam setup i have right now...i don't like the jerking and stuff...i basically want a great street machine that will do well at the track (mid 11's at the highest) and be cost effective...so what should i do...i need to stay below 8k definatly and would like it to be closer to 5k...and it needs to last...i have a 100k on the car as is

heck no...i have a 100,000 miles on the odometer...if i had a 100k into the car...i sure wouldn't have 386rwhp...expect that to be 3860rwhp...haha...also if i had a 100 grand i sure would not be putting it into a car...i would be getting a house...i have about 12k into the car...including the price of the car

Don't forget you'll have to upgrade your rear end and tranny, especially with a 6sp. Even if you go N/A first with a 408, I doubt the rear will last, especially if it sees alot of track time.

it wouldn't see a lot of track time...and right now i am in the process of getting the tranny rebuilt with the new textralia clutch...i would get the engine before the rear...as i'm not very track oriented...so i could drive it around and stuff and have fun (no launching) until i could get a 9"

i could probably break the rear fairly easy as is if i launched it at the track...it has 3.73's and 100k miles on it
