Default Spooling Faster?

is there any way to make a turbo spool faster. as you all know i have a q.m.p. kit and its at full spool by like 3500 i was just wondering if i could reduce that by a few hundred rpm. its a t74 q trim. i know when my wg's were messed up it would spool like a mother. hit 13psi before i knew it. just curious as to what the experts do. thanks in advance

timing and fuel. fatten it up at the bootom of the curve before it starts to build boost. The higher exhaust gas temps from the rich air fuel mix will help spool the turbo faster. More ignition timing will help too. With the rich mix down low you can bump timing up down there. Get as much as you can down low. Remeber tune it more like a NA vehicle before the boost comes in. I usually start with a 11:1 AFR at WOT just as its ready to start boostin, then when it reaches full boost start to lean it out to the upper RPM's to about 11.5-11.8:1.

correct me if im wrong but, richening the a/f will reduce the exhaust temps...., and a lean mix will raise the temps....

No, rich = cool.

Lean = hotter vs a richer A/F. You can actually cool your combustion charge with more fuel. That's why you add MORE fuel to nitrous, to cool the combustion charge to a level where it won't pre-ignite, aka detonate, and/or get so hot it melts vital internal engine components.

Technically it will get hotter. If tuned right. The trick is to richen it enough were it still burns while in the exaust. (Basically shooting flames) That is whats going to spool it quicker. It's an old trick. Supposebly it works good. But i havn't done it so i couldn't tell you. I don't see a reason for boost before 4500RPM

ZAngel's spools HARD, by ~2500 RPM or so (T76 Q trim ball bearing). I've got her boost controller set to max 10 psi and it nails that immediately if you deck the throttle. Not sure if the difference is in the ball bearing cartridge, or the slightly bigger cubes, but that car spools --NOW-- ..

to make a turbo go faster, either switch to a ball bearing turbo, turbos work better with a bigger exhaust/downpipe. Switch to 3" if you haven't done so already

To spool quicker put a ball spring pressure relief valve in the source line going to the wastegate. What this will do is to keep any pressure from going to the gate until the valve has reached its cracking pressure. this is adjustable and can be set using a typical air compresor and regulator. Thes can be had from grainger or mcmaster-carr.

What is the A/R size of your exhaust housing? If you are running a 1.3 change it to a .96.

The turbo is a PTE T74 thrust mount with a .96 AR housing. From everything I know, relocating the wastegate from the end of the manifold would likely be your biggest help. In it's current location it is directly in line with the flow of exhaust gases and in all likelyhooh this causes the spring to open early bleeding off boost. Try a heavier spring or change its location.

I wonder if wastegate difference is also something to think about? We switched Tiff's kit to use a TiAL WG and BOV. She's running a .4 bar spring in the gate, and an electronic boost controller. The vacuum lines route such that the gate is connected to open air until you get near your set boost pressure, then the boost solenoid begins modulating the time between open air and pressure supply to the gate.
