Well I have a fuel issue that I'll be working on in a few...gotta let my car cool since I was cruising around. I've hit 11-12psi now and it feels great. This GT42 spools FAST and smooth..but I have to end the WOT fun way too early because my FP dives.

As for tuning, Lets just say someone threw me some help last night and his tune freakin ROCKS. The car drives a ton nicer now and responds to the pedal like it should. I can't wait to figure out my diving FP problem now and keep it WOT for a 1/4 pass.

I tried to tune it...and got it running decently but there is somethings that go beyoned the novice and for me it was the way the turbo ramps up so quickly....I was fighting the tune daily..but was getting close...two more months of tuning it and I would have nailed it

Jer,
The "ramp" the turbo displays is just the nature of that turbo. If you look at a hp/tq/ curve of a T88, it is a much slower rising curve and the power doesn't "really" begin until 4k RPM's. A T04R or SP77 turbo spool much faster and have the power band beginning at 2k RPM. Some of the smaller turbo's give off weird dyno graphs. The GT42 you are running is kind of in the middle of these two comparisons. It isn't a dog like the T88 nor is it as small as the SP77 turbo. I would say once the car is tuned and your MAP is conifugred, the "ramp" of HP should settle some. The GT42 has a 82mm turbine wheel I believe. The T04R has a 72mm turbine wheel. My buddy has a 95 Supra turbo that gets a LOT of power in a matter of 2k RPM's. Once your car is tuned, I wouldn't wanna be the one who runs you on the freeway. Anyways, good luck and I wanna see some more VIDEO's!!!!!!!

Heath LOL I tried and FAILED I'd still like to head out there to meet you guys and slap the dyna packs on, i've got quite a bit of info on those things and all I can say is I want a set!! Just need the 75000 for em I'll hit you up for some more info soon. Gotta get past this fuel problem to continue the tuning progress.

Andy, excellent info, specs of my GT42 are 102mm, 53 trim compressor wheel and an 82mm, 84 trim turbine wheel

I was expecting a slow spooler, especially with my cam(stg 3 s/c grind 233/244 .579/.602 on a 115LSA)
But so far its really impressed me with how quickly it spools, can be summed up as fast, smooth and accelerates pretty fierce, I really need to get a camera shot on the tach and boost gauge to show how quickly it gets to @12psi.
More vids of some on ramp fun will be posted soon.

Ark, man that sucks, hope you can get it running sooner than you hope Just don't say two weeks, that'll forever haunt me

The GT42 you have is the same thing as a 74GTS. All wheels are the same in the PTE Strim class turbo and GT42's. The SP77 is nothing more then Sound Performance's naming game they play with PTE turbos. The SP77=76GTS. The GT42 you have is identical to the 76GTS except the inducer wheel is 2mm smaller. A T04R is a T66, so it obviously will spool faster, since its a much smaller turbo. A T88 mid frame only spools 500 rpms slower then a 76GTS on a 346 ci motor. Hardly a dog, but it isn't going to pull your grandfather's hair piece off below 3000rpms

T88 Man if I could get the one in the F/S section right now...damn this lack of money.

So are you saying I have a pretty good turbo? lol I know nothing about these things and the more I read the more I get lost I'm glad I didn't try to trade my GT42 in for the 76GTS Pham had at his shop...would've been trading it for the same thing basically right?

All I know is it makes my D1 feel like my ol powerdyne well maybe not that bad

man still waiting huh, that sucks...
As for what kind of additive its called
40 below coolant additive, its 24.99 at autozone A lot of rodders here rec'd it to me so I gave it a shot.
I will be trying to mount the fans in front of the radiator though, just have to get some $$ for another set of fans first.

There is a great resource online although it is an import website. Check out:

T04R.com

This is a website for the elite 93-98 Supra's. I will honestly say this is the ONLY import I would own (well also a Nissan Skyline R34 which is a Supra on steroids).

Anyways, there is a section on the site called "dyno graphs" where you can see the graphs of various turbos and their respective rwhp/rwtq ratings. The great feature of this is you can see various graphs superimposed on one another with various line colors to compare/contrast the turbo's. If you see a turbo with the power range you are looking for, you can reference the owners page on the site and see what mods they run. Although they are Supra's, this site is full of some NICE *** cars.

Check it out....its a good site.

Andy
