"Alcohol" injection
Well, I ran the T/A on the dyno the other day using the 8 psi boost setting and the methanol system with "methanol" from a local race shop. It looked a little weird for an ostensibly clear liquid (it had a slight yellow tinge). Running, I got next to no reduction in IAT's or knock. Curious, I attempted to mix some water in with my "methanol". It clouded upon contact and eventually settled into a clear layer and a cloudy layer. I'm really starting to doubt that this is the "clear liquid, miscible in all proportions with water" that methanol is supposed to be. Basically, I'm wondering if the STS alcohol system has been an effective IAT reducer and knock killer with a quality alcohol. I'd also welcome any guesses about what the guy actually sold me. Sorry about the long post.

i'd say it's what he sold you that is not right. Mine is always clear...I mean crystal clear...meth that is. I know it works...17 psi with 93 pump and IATs in the 180 range before alky...it'd blow if alky wasnt reducing temps and adding octane. I saw the people at VP Racing pour mine so I never questioned it

i would guess you are not flowing very much, some kind of problem with your set up. my iat's droped from 175 or so down to 80 and i am able to run at least 5psi more. i am just geting started playing with the meth and am very impresed with it so far.

I bet they sold you paint thinner. LOL
Mine is completely clear and mixes with water. You do need to tune the system though. You can't just stick the kit on and start spraying and magically take away knock. Did you try race gas and such before the meth kit to ensure that it was real knock you were seeing?

I was running on 92 octane gas with a Nelson mail-order tune. The low boost runs I tried were knock-free, then the first high boost run picked up about 3* of KR starting at about 4000 RPM, so the operator cut off the run. IAT's were at about 170*. I'll have to try again with real methanol. I was kind of lucky, though. The car after me was a turbo Mazda that started knocking like crazy after a few runs, and the Eclipse that went on after that wasn't strapped down right and hopped off the roller.

Look for a VP Fuels dealer and they can get it for you. It's about $3.5/ga here in Cali.

I've run it in my car for the past few months and its worked perfectly fine, never tried methanol.

Thats no cheaper than going to HD though. Thatll be somewhere around 80$ said and done w/ fees and whatnot. I just bought 2 gallons of DA for 25$. Works just the same.
The best would be to have a couple of your buddies and you buy a 55 gallon drum for like 150$ from VP, and then just sell it off and make your money back.
Thats what I would do if I knew more people w/ AI ...

I get 55 gallon drums of VP meth for 148 bucks including the drum deposit delivered, and I don't get any kind of special hookups. Find a local VP dealer and get a big drum and you can get it very cheap. Nice to know I can fill up my fuel cell with about 15 bucks worth of methanol and have it last me for two months and it's the equivalent of me running around on 110 octane everywhere.

Nice ad lib. I paid something like $55. For those of us that live outside of town and no practical way to buy locally, don't use tons of meth, and have onsite storage issues it is a great way to go. And, after spending big bucks on the car and upgrades, I'm sure as hell not going to use anything not prepared and sold as an automotive fuel.
Those who use more than 5 gallons a year are probably leaking more than they are burning.

I was merely saying that if you don't have the funds to drop on massive amounts of meth for a 55 gallon, that your local HD works just fine.
As for it not used for automotive fuel... Tourlene and Xlene work as octane boosters, yes they clog the O2s,but you see my point. DA works just as well as meth, afterall ,it is alchohol injection. I had a good talk with Julio about this(designer of the alkycontrol.com kits) and he said that the only difference between the two, is you may be able to run 1 more psi w/ meth, thats it.
If I came off rude before, I didnt mean to. I don't understand what the ad-lib comment was for.
