I am looking into building my own TT kit and I was wondering what the pros and cons are when talking about fully built LT1 vs fully built LS1. For instance, which would be cheaper to make it fully capable of the power(long term). Any words of wisdom you can give me would be appreciated.
Thanks

LT1s are an iron block so id imagine those would hold more power with the right combo of parts.id just stick with whatever came with the car,lt1<1997 ls1>1997.Otherwise they'll be some wiring involved ontop of the motor build.unless youre planning on going to a FAST or BS3 anyways.for new age go ls1 or ls2

I plan to put this setup into an camaro, don't care which year. Idealy I would use a fire or flood damaged car, or just blown engine car, essentially rolling chassy. I plan to make big numbers, I will be doing stand alone management. I was thinking iron block for power handling reasons, maybe the 6.0L block and build motor from scratch bare block up. Then get the car, then beef up the drivetrain, then lastly TT. This won't get going for a little while but I would hopefully start then engine build somewhat soon.
Thanks for the input,
Jim

I am saving up for my next project...355ci Lt1 TT...was going to go the N20 route but really by the time I do everything it really isn't that far off to go to turbo plus you get the power all the time.

I dont come by the FI section much... BUT... 6.0L iron LSX blocks are pretty darn cheap. Put a stroker crank in there and have a nice strong 408 that will have all the LS series goodies like 6 bolt mains and non-siamese port heads and so forth.

I would say for ultimate durability I would pick the iron 6.0 block. Sure you can have an LT1 block converted to 4 bolt mains, but most of the high horsepower guys land up using hardbloc. I figure for the price of the stock iron 6.0 block you would need a Dart or World Products SBC casting to match the strength and neither of these companies make an LT1 block
