Re: Powerdyne Guys Inside
I am still in a state of 1/2 way done
I put the 6psi pulley on, added my 36# injectors, about 50% done with the H20 injection and will now be adding the installation of MAC's to my to-do list. I hope to have it all installed and dialed in sometime in Feb. (no time to work on the car til mid Jan)
I'm shooting for 450rwhp. Lets see how close I get

I could but I refuse to tune by mail. I want to give the H20/Alky injection a try and see if I can run full advance and see what kind of power I can make. Like Steve is doing with his Vortech. If it works out great, if not, I will wait for LS1-Edit or equivalent and go the more traditional route.

Re: Powerdyne Guys Inside
I will be putting my new engine back together in the next couple of weeks, and I am keeping the powerdyne hooked up to it.
This will be my new setup:
Stock Shortblock
LS6 Intake
MAC Headers w/ ORP
Ported TB
221/224 cam
38# injectors
Walbro in-tank
Powerdyne 4.5# kit
I have no idea where I will end up HP-wise, my old setup hit 375HP without headers, cam, TB or intake and smaller injectors.
think 450 is reasonable? anyone think more?
of course, it's hard to think of this car even running ever again considering the vast assortment of parts scattered throughout my garage and basement....

Re: Powerdyne Guys Inside
I've talked to a guy that's got the unlimited version of LS1edit about tuning once the car's together. He suggested tuning it first without the SC installed.....
I politely declined, but said I'd like him to tune it once everything's installed...
Blackbird- I'm gonna see what numbers I hit with the pulley I've got, then decide if I want to go higher. I'm still hoping for 450 with the current PD setup.

Good choice
tuning an FI setup and an NA setup are night and day
and FWIW, you can control detonation w/o water inj. and tuning
octane helps too

Re: Powerdyne Guys Inside
Blackbird it is not that expensive. Until I get on a dyno I run 30/70 mix of Xylene and Super Unleaded. SU at Costco is like 99 cents a gallon and Xylene is $158.60 for a 55 gallon drumc=$2.88 a gallon. A 30/70 mix costs me $1.56 a gallon for 100 octane That is cheap enuff to damn near run all the time like Harlan does. 100 octane is 4.50 a gallon at our tracks here in Ga. so it is definitely worth it to me.

Re: Powerdyne Guys Inside
regarding h2o/alky injection...
first of all Harlan is intercooled, you powerdyne guys like myself are not.
Running only 8psi boost even with a supercharger adiabatic efficiency of 100%(impossible) will raise charge temps around 70 degrees! My vortech is more efficient than the powerdyne but even so at 75% efficiency it will raise charge temps around 20 more degrees over Boyles gas law.
Now your at a charge temp of 90+ degrees over ambient not even taking into account engine heat.
The water/alky works as both an intercooler and anti detonation suppressant much more powerful than 100 octane fuel.
Running 10psi I was only seeing about a 20' rise over ambient with my h2o/alky system
The question then for most guys , is it to complicated to add to the car?
I don't think so but I am a tinkerer.

I am with Steve, I think the h20/alky will make for a more efficient setup than running 100 octane. Not too mention alot cheaper
Allthough I am gonna be scared shitless the first time it's triggered. I have read about tons of people using this and I know there have to be 1000's all over the world using it but it's still kinda scary

Re: Powerdyne Guys Inside
Your biggest problem? What happens when you run out of alky in the middle of a run? I guess, you better be really careful about refilling. What is the whole argument for supercharging/versus nitrous? Usually it's because it's on all the time right? Well, with water/alky you now have another thing besides gas that needs refilling every time you go WOT. Sounds like it's easier to go bottle to me, albeit more expensive. Sort of.
I sold mine, so not much going on in my powerdyne world.......

Re: Powerdyne Guys Inside
Thats why I will have a low level indicator, so when the fluid gets low I know to fill it. Shouldn't be any more of a pain then putting gas in the tank. I got a 5 gallon cell so thats a whole lotta boost between fill ups
BTW your old kit is doing great for Jason. 407wrhp/406rwtq at the wheels last dyno. Still have a little tuning to go and a trick or two and I think Jason will be laying down 420/420 all day long

Re: Powerdyne Guys Inside
Isn't it wierd how the TQ and HP line right up with that kit? They almost match each other RPM for RPM too.
Glad it's working for him. Too bad the FP guage is not. I suggest he get an autometer like I did.
