Default Z06 cam with 6lb boost??

Would this be a good cam to go with running 6lbs of boost, trying to keep the car sounding as stock as possible, and get the most hp out of it

From the research I have done the answer would be NO on getting the most HP out of it on boost. The Z06cam is to small for a max effort. Probably you'll want something in the 222-224 intake on a 114º-115ºLSA pushing .570 or better lift. When doing research I was shown this direction and looked promising. http://www.cmotorsports.com/engine/l...ft-design.html

I should add if your not doing an all out max effort that cam should be fine. I'm looking for one myself at the moment.

I have to disagree. He's only going to be running 6 lbs., so it's not going to be an all out setup. I believe KP just ran 9.7x with a Z06 cam. Obviously the combination, and setup of KP's car is the reason for those ET's, but it shows that cam can make power.

for only 6psi, dont bother with a cam at all. unless you are the type that has to have it for the sound. then get whatever sounds the way you want.

i ran 144mph with a stock 98 cam and am thinking about putting it back in.

Man that's a tiny cam for a 408. It will idle real smooth.

I'm running a '01 Z06 cam with ~14psi and it works fine. Honestly with 6-7psi I would just leave the stock cam. My old 2000ss with a P1SC made close to 500rwhp all stock except for headers and 8-9psi so I would just leave it stock. Unless you are looking for a little lope but a Z06 cam wont give you that

I would just leave the stock cam and throw a set of Z06 valve springs on the car to be safe. I dont think you will pick up a whole bunch by swapping cams at that boost level. Just my opinion though

Yep I mostly agree kp. PSJ said something like: do at least a 224º or dont bother. Well I think he's right to a POINT. That thinking is correct unless your trying to eek all the grunt you can get with a STOCK IDLE. If I had the engine torn down I would slip it in, but dont think its worth the gaskets to change it by itself. Its all about compromise with the cam you can live with.

Thats the general Idea, a stock running 800+ rwhp car. I'm 2-3psi away from 700 rwhp now on a stock motor with a 224/224/112 cam. I'm not a big fan of the cam, but it does give me an extra 500 rpms to make power with.

I just put a stronger spring in the WG tonight too Min boost is now 11 psi.

There is a car in orlando, Bone stock Z06 with a P1SC that made 580+ rwhp @ 10psi. So I think this alone says the stock Z06 cam does work well.

A question......what about throwing in a set of 1.85 rockers. Would that help a little without having to swap cams?
And why not just up the boost slightly?

02 Z06 cam for the budget-minded who want a stock idle.

I like that Speed Inc. 225//225 cam.

I look at it like this, if you are going to pay like $1000 for a cam, and install, well... make it count. I'm just talking about bang-for-buck, assuming you don't mind lope or want a little lope.
