Default 16 Spal or LT1 Radiator?

Took the car for a cruise by the beach, doesn't want to keep cool. Temps climbed up to 220 @ idle and low speed. On the freeway they would eventually come down.

Outside Temps were in high 60's

Which would be the better move? Fan or radiator?

Ed, I'd suggest searching and reading dlandsvZ28's posts on Spal fans and on cooling. I'm not so sure that a Spal or a new radiator alone will solve your problem. However I like dlandsvZ28's idea of an additional 9" puller in the other side of the shroud. I haven't done this yet myself though. Also another idea is the Spal dual fans...if they clear the blower, which they may or may not.

Let's put those dual 11" SPALs in your car Ed !!

I'll give them to you CHEAP and even help you put 'em in.

With the added cubes I'd go for a bigger radiator as well... Cheap insurance. Make sure to get one with a trans cooler.

I'll try to call you later to catch up.

I went ahead and bought the SPAL 16" Extreme. Installing that tonight. Maybe I can get these temps down.

What is an acceptable temp? 210*?

ya should get the LT1 radiator also. I got mine 2 weeks ago for 130 dollars from Chevy. Definatly a good deal. Make sure to get the LT1 radiator for the 93-96 LT1's as the 97 is smaller. All i had to do was plug the one hole and puthe the level sensor and the ruber boot from teh original radiator on and i was set. GL

How did you get that rad. so cheap? Was it new or used? Autozone wants 239 or something for one and they are usually 1/2 the price of GM parts.

The dual SPAL setup is the way to go more are then the 16" single fan and the dual 11" fan motors that are used in that application are rated at a higher static.

doesn't the EWP flow less than the stocker? In addition to what the others mentioned I would consider selling the EWP and put back in the stocker or get a high flow WP.

I thought the duals flow about the same as the 16". 3000 cfm?

As for the EWP, I thought it flows more than the stocker at lower rpms? :dunno:
