Default What cam for single turbo car?

i have a 99 SS with teh turbo tech T-60 kit, i have heads and a cam already, but the cam was installed for nitrous(that was originally on the car)..now that i have gone turbo, i think the cam is hurting me. the car is a m6.
can anyone tell me the specs of a good cam for my setup and a good place to buy one? i am also planning on upgrading to a LS6 intake while i am doing the cam swap. thanks for any info you can give me.

I would call comp. cams, a cam that is designed for a turbocharger will usually have an inverted pattern and a larger LSA, all this depends on the turbo and the boost you want to run.
Hope this helps.

What are your cam specs now?

And what are your 1/4 times and dyno figures?

my current cam specs are: 221/221 @.50 w/ .558lift
the lobe seperation is 114. i don't know a whole lot about cams, but i have the cam card so let me know if you need more information on it.
i don't have any dyno times but with 9lbs of boost i am only hitting 114mph in the quater. since it is a nitrous cam, the car went 118mph with a 100 shot before the turbo. any help would be greatly appreciated.

That cam actually isn't too bad.

But 114 on 9 psi does seem low. You're running the 60-1, might be time to step up to the t76

unless you're going BIG, an inverted pattern probably isn't really needed.

but FWIW, my new cam is 228/224 .563/.553 lsa112

a little tight on the LSA, but inverted pattern

we shall see

hey harlan, where did you find that cam? have you not tried it out yet? do you have any idea why my car is so slow? could it have something to do with the ed wright tuning...i heard he was very conservative without a dyno tune. thanks for the info

another question harlan....in the "internal engine" forum, you replied about the dyno results of an inverted cam from thunder racing with the specs of 227/224 566/561 and 114LSA....i was also thinking this would be an excellent turbo cam. what do you think between this one and the one you are about to try? just curious of your opinion on this....thanks again

The cam you have in your car now is the B1 cam.. I have the T1 cam.. Not really a bad cam, but a split duration would be better.. I have been getting mixed reviews on the cam thing. I do not understand why, but I was told that supercharger like more on the exhaust side and turbos do not. Whats good for a NA might not be good for FI.. It will work but you could be leaving some power on the table. How much I do not know. Could be 10rwhp or it could be 30rwhp. Y2k does have a point about upgrading to a bigger turbo.. I ran 12.28 at 116mph on DR's with my T1 with headers.. My car is a M6 so launching is tricky..

That cam does not sound that bad for a turbo application. With your mph maybe you need to check things over with your motor and turbo. But again that cam does not sound bad at all. From the numbers you gave it almost looks like some turbo grinds.

I would put her on the dyno 1st.. You might not need a cam. Just some better tuning. Ed Wright does not always get it right the first time.. I know..

i don't know the first thing about tuning this car so i need to take it to someone who does. what about LS1 edit? do i need to take it somewhere who has access to that as well? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

definitely.. with any cam at all and 9psi on the t-60 you should be at least trapping 120ish.
are your heads ported too?

tuning is off.. dont trust your tuner!

do you have a fuel pressure gauge or egt or air-fuel?

yes the heads are ported too. i bought the car this way so i haven't done anything too it but fix the leaking 12 bolt.
the guy i bought it from did the heads/cam for nitrous and then had a 100 shot on the car...it trapped 118 that way on street tires.
now with the turbo i can't get over 114mph with 9lbs of boost. i usually keep it on 6lbs around town. teh tuning was a "mail order" ed wright that cam with the turbo kit. it was done for the current heads/cam but i guess that all needs to be redone wehn the car is put on a dyno?
just need a reputable place to take it and have it dyno tuned to make the max horsepower with this setup. how much does something like this usually run? thanks again
