You can also use the ATI Procharger. No cutting required.

The problem with most twin-screw or roots type blowers is the vast amount of power at low RPMs is often too much to handle on street cars. It makes daily low speed driving a pleasure but if you tap the throttle a little too hard you get massive wheelspin. Also they tend to fall of in the high rpm range where most centrifugal blowers shine and where you need the power most.

This has been a contstant debate since the Whipple put out their first twin-screw blower for the old Chevy pickups in the early 90's.The same thing with the Mustangs when Kenny Bell did their blowers. Awesome low end, crappy top end, when compared to a Vortech, ATI, Paxton etc.

and the massive amount of heat generated by non-intercooled FI.

You can get great results with a centrifugal supercharger. The only SC you have to cut the hood for is the Vortech.

I'm a big fan of Procharger. Powerdyne's are cheap, but are far from optimal. Vortech isn't bad, but you'll generally see better results from a Procharger. Install on a Procharger is pretty easy as well.

The SC you're talking about won't fit under the hood of an F-body.

Lingenfelter is developing a postive displacement supercharger for the Fbody. While they don't produce the numbers as a centrifugal, and don't have a great top end, they do well for daily driven, stoplight to stoplight cars.

Default Roots-type supercharger now superior

I thought I remember seeing something recently about a new roots-type blower for our 5.7 LS1 engines.

Does anybody know who makes these? I assume it has more advantages than a Vortech belt driven unit - especially for those of us who own Camaro SS cars where the Vortech plumbing/intercooler will not fit under the stock hood.

What are the prices for these units? I assume they are less expensive since they do not have an intercooler...

I think that C5 Magnusen blower does have an intercooler--it is an integral piece of the intake manifold if I remember correctly.
