I have the Stock sized ATI 6-rib setup. Comes with 1 square keyway. They sell a vertical pin kit for it. Pricey. Might help keep the rotating assembly under control and hopefully reduce any bearing wear up front.

They make an 8-rib option too.

The ATI Super Damper $550 NASCAR balancer.
The stupid expensive one. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

http://www.atiperformanceproducts.co...rs/dampers.htm

I have the stock size, 7.5" I think? Not sure about an 8"+ option. I know the shells are universal across auto lines. I think only the hub is specific to our crank. They custom assemble them using interchangeable parts. You might be able to get custom sizes in an 8-rib, larger than stock with more grip & belt wrap for your blower. Looks like they even have a 10-rib available!

Honestly the FLUIDAMPR looks better at our RPM's. Think they have a higher failure rate tho. I don't 'think' they have an LS1 product yet. Was rumoured to be our soon tho.

Looks like ATI has a complete 8-rib accessory pulley replacement kit also:
http://www.atiperformanceproducts.co.../pr/103002.htm
If anyone calls, plz post the 8-rib ATI Perf conversion price.

I think MMS has a larger crank pulley for more wrap and spins the blower faster too.

PSJ:
Are you thinking Vortech or ATI Procharger? I forgot.

Vortech YS trim.

I called over there, and the F-body and Y-body stuff is obviously different.

F-Body: 917329 for 7.530 diameter and it's $527
Pinning kit: 918993 and it's $122

BUT I would still need to access a custom idler pulley, and other pulleys in order to go to 8 rib? I need to do some more research I think I found my first snag with the build.

If I got the ATI one I would NOT need a conventional crank pulley anymore since it replaces the whole thing (right?) but then I have to get custom pulleys for everthing else in order to run 8 rib as opposed to 6 rib.

Is Scott WS6 running a 6 rib belt with his AT1 F1?

Never mind, I have a better handle on this stuff now.

The ATI Procharger setups uses a pulley that sits within the balancer, I'm guessing the Vortech LS1 kit does the same thing.

I talked to Lee at ASP Racing and he was super helpful. I am going to send him a new OEM balancer and have him make me a custom 8 rib crank pulley hopefully around 7.5-8 inches in diameter, and have him balance the whole thing otherwise it will wobble since the runout on the stock stuff is pretty bad. I might have him key it too but that's for another day to discuss. He said $200 to make the 8 rib crank pulley, and another $75 to put a key in it.

When I get my Vortech stuff we'll figure out how to redo the 8 rib blower pulley.

Sounds like things are going in the right direction! Def key the crank and damper.

I didn't have to be as concerned with my Vortech since it has a secondary cog and a complete belt replacement system with great belt wrap on all pulleys different from stock.

But the 8-rib is a great way to go. I'd even reconsider if I was doing it again. At my blower rpm's and cog it shouldn't be a problem, but I'm not getting super crazy.

Wouldnt the ATI give 2 belt grooves. one 6 and one 8. 8 for the blower and 6 for the alt. I wouldnt fool with power steering on this build. get that 7.5x pulley and have that one dude on here or ASP build you an 8-rib idler and blower pulley.

Okay I called over and got a better phone guy...

In summary, they have a full set of 8 rib pulleys. According to Bob over there, they work for either the F-body or the Y-body crank pulley. The Y and F crank pulleys are setup similarly so that addresses my concern of the ATI pulleys not working on ONE of the cars ie my F-body.

FWIW the ATI D1 blowers are 6 rib, so the Vortech S-trim has to be a 6 rib setup too I would imagine but I will call and make sure. So Scott WS6 must be running a 6 rib belt with an F1.

ATI:
f-body pulley, 917329, $520
pin kit, 918993, $122
alt pulley, 916176, $127
tensioner, 916177, $150
p/steering, 916178, $306

If I go this route I'm gonna get rid of my power steering.

So now I will call ASP and compare pricing. I'm at $900 for the ATI Performance setup.

I'm not sure exactly which ATI Dampner I have but it's got 2 allen head set screws oppossite from each other on the crank neck. You remove the allen head, drill a small divot into the crank (after the dampner is torqued on of course). Scew down the allen head set screw and walah!. Maybe not as good as keying the crank but better than nothing!

The AC Pulley has 3 tapped holes in it. 3 long bolts go thru the Blower pulley, into the Dampner and screw into the tapped holes on the AC Pulley and it's locked in place. The other shorter bolts pretty much just help with securing the blower pulley to the dampner..

Pro Stock John,
Yeah, the ATI pulley bolts onto our stock crank pulley and uses pins to lock itself on the spokes of the stock crank hub/crank. The MMS crank pulley is 7.85" and bolts to our stock crank pulley also but is bigger with more surface area, so that means more boost and less belt slipping. I ordered mine lastnight..with that and my 4.10" blower pulley I should get 7#'s to 8#'s. I hope <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Den

There are horizontal pin kits and vertical pin kits. The ATI Super Damper uses vertical pins.

Okay, who's going to cut to the chase and post the LS1 stock Vortech blower kit part #'s for the ATI balancer (cut for key already), crank pulley, etc?

No need to reinvent the wheel...

I did all my learning yesterday.

Basically, for anyone running a 8 rib conversion, you would pretty much want to disregard all of my ATI Performance info since who would want to run a 8 rib belt that ran the blower AND all of your accessories.

The LT1 big dawgs run something like a OEM balancer and then a blower pulley that sits inside the balancer... So two piece.

My plan is to run the ASP crank pulley, but I am gonna have MTI send them a OEM balancer to use. I will most likely have ASP work with me on keying the setup.

????

John, I don't understand you...

Fbody Vortech kits come with an ATI balancer (superior to stock balancer) and a 8-Rib 8" bolt on to balancer crank pulley. That ATI balancer is already cut for keyed crank also. It also comes with an auto tensioner, etc. This setup is way nicer than having a crank pulley made that fits into the stock balanacer.

Aren't you going with Vortech anyways for the blower??? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> So why are you reinvented a complete Vortech system that already works very well? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

What am I missing in your madness?

JAS thanks for the info, I had not talked to Vortech about their balancer since for some reason I assumed it was a 6 rib belt.

In fact you are right it's an 8 rib pulley and it's 8 inches in diameter.

What, for the 8 rib balancer/pulley setup? I didn't ask the person I was talking to since they are not my primary contact there.
