Default Why do superchargers whine?

I'm still new to this. I have a Vortech G-Trim and like clock work the headunit emits a Grrrrr sound that goes up in pitch with the RPM's about every 20mins of driving then it gets quiet again and won't make a sound other than the whistle.

I switched to a heavier weight oil and it helps but I really don't understand why it has to do this? Is this normal? It sounds exactly like a failing powersteering pump and it's getting on my nerves.. Do people actually like this racket?

if the vortech's are like the ati's, there is an intermediate gear between the driven pulley shaft and the impeller. it is just that gear chattering. as for the whine, why does a jet engine do it? lots o air being moved! turn up your radio.

I'm just curious if this whine that i'm hearing is in fact normal supercharger whine. I've never heard a blower before and why does it come and go? Why wouldn't it just do it all the time.

Another way to describe it would be that it sounds almost exactly like a roots blower. I've seen videos of 03 Cobras at WOT and that's what mine sounds like.

BTW, Mine sounds nothing like a jet engine. Maybe the whistle at idle.

Dude, ya gotta have patience, you will get responses, but damn some people work and have lives, i only get on here once a day at night usually, so do most so give us a day to respond, and from what i heard, that thing is amazingly quiet, my ATI was extremely loud when i had it, like at idle, mine was louder that the Vortech i heard in your vid, you should really hear a D-1sc howl at about 5500, that is crazy.

Sorry for being impatient. You know how it is.. You have a problem and can't sleep at night until it's fixed. hehe.. Or maybe that's just me. I did post this same question on LS1.com and it's over 2 pages now. Because only 2 people have replied to this thread doesn't mean I don't appreciate the info. I was just curious why threads of serious concerns get passed but if I posted who makes synthetic Windshield washer fluid it would blow up!. haha

I'd assume that your blower sounds are probably more similar to all the other Blowers in the world. Mine sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. Being that my kit is used I was worried it was going to unload on me. I could pay Vortech $650 for them to rebuild it and get it back making the same sounds.. If it's normal. Cool.. IF it's not.. I'd like to verify that right away and take care of it..

Thanks!

Sounds Normal to me Brian. You havent rode with Cj in his car before. His car sounds the same way, the only thing thats different is that he has a blow-off valve so when ever he shifts you hear that fluttering sound. I understand your worries, I would probably be the same way. What happened to your bullet muffler, it sayd you have a magnaflow?.

Thanks guys.. I was just a bit nervous.. It alarmed me when the noise comes and goes like that.. Almost convinced me that a bearing inside was going bad.

Brian.
