Take your target power and weight, convert it to estimated trap speed.

Now take your estimated trap speed and plot it against max RPM and tire height to figure out necessary gearing.

I run a 3.25 gear. If you're planning on maxing out that T76, you'll probably want a 3.25-3.55 gear depending on the tire you are planning to run.

my mechanic wants to wait to see how much power i will have and the weigh it looks on the sheet to determain what gears also however we were thinking of 3.55s right off the bat!

I would definetly go with a 3.23 using a 28-in tall slick as torque should not be a problem at all and the low gear will "settle" the car down when it leaves. There are some of my Buick and Mustang brethren including myself that have been using less gear and finding trap speed and ET. Just take a look at the GN in last months issue of GM HIGH-TECH PEFORMANCE. He is running a 3.23 gear with a 28-in tall slick and running 9's with allot less C.I.D than you will have. I don't think you will be dissappointed at all with a numerically lower gear such as the 3.23. Plus turbos like to be "loaded" as it were, that is when they trully make power.

Unless your dealing with Coan where math doesn't apply!

Depends on your power level, and other things but I would generally stay at 3.55 or less gear.

you are a six speed right? I would go no taller than a 3.50 gear if you are running a 26 inch tire and if a 28 I would go 3.73. six speeds dont have the torque multiplication that the autos have so gearing is a little more important (comparitively)
