Default wow crazy 99 pcv (not) valve

was looking at a buddies powerdyne 88 trans am and discussing pcv options. his was stock and had been popping out the dipstick some.

we put on my old oil fill breather and i was starting to describe how my pcv set up goes. i pulled out his pcv valve and found this!

the damn thing is hollow! no valve in it at all.

not only does this not vent the crankcase well at vaccum, but it allows straight boost to go into the crankcase!

we replaced it with a regular pcv valve and his crank vaccum increased and now 'mostly' seals under boost.. shouldnt rely on a stock pcv valve for that.. but at least it has my valve cover breather to let it out now.

I can't believe it.. must have been some quick fix gm tried to limit oil consumption?

check it out.. anyone that still uses the stock pcv valve and has never looked at it, please check it out!

anyone have any more info on this?

suppose to reduce oil consumption, but you can only use it with the LS6 valley cover conversion as they have a check valve intergrated into the cover, that's why the valve doesnt have a check valve in it.........

i took it out of a stock 99 30th anniversary. not only does it not have an ls6 valley cover, but i have one of those on my car and it does not have an integrated check vavle?

i figured it was to reduce oil consumption if anything.

weather you have this valve or a stock regular pcv valve you HAVE to put a better 1 way valve that seals completely under boost in line with it OR ditch the system all together for something else.

So running this PCV is bad? I've been doing it for years and haven't seen any issues.

then not so bad (see original post) however you are still definitely pushing air into the crankcase, and i heavily reccomend you replace that 'thing' with a nice 1 way valve and even throw on an oil separator.

at least you have the breather to let the boost out

I have the McMaster 1 way check valve inline too and a catch can-I'll pull that pcv and go back to the ball type. I got a Metco breather too but it won't fit under the hood of a C5?
