Default 23psi.. iridium plugs or not and what PN??

hey guys,

I am getting ready to turn up the wick on the 96 vette, I know its an LT1 but figured since we are generally all running the TR6 plugs on low boost the plug selection would be the same. I was told and have read about iridiums being used in high boost applications with a great deal of success and was looking for some solid confirmation on this. also if they work for you, what brand and part numbers are being used successfully for 23 psi? thanks in advance!

I have some autolite 103's which I bought along wiht the 104's which are in there.. I have not tried them out but figured If I was gonna swap plugs I may as well go ahead and try a proven plug and see if it makes any difference... I got some higher rpm misses I would like to try and clear up, they are random with no pattern, it is not knock according to the knock module on the DFI and by ear it is not audible.. just brief misses and a few puffs of black smoke when it occurs.. as if the spark is being blown out.. just want this baby to run smooth like a sewing machine!

TR7 Iridiums gapped at .42 work awesome for me...but I run less than half the amout of boost you're talking about. NGK has always been very helpful to me on the phone with these types of questions FWIW.

No such things as TR8's buddy..In fact anything after a TR6 is non-existent in the TR series....BP7EFS are the NGK 7's people commonly refer to as the TR7's

R5671A-8 are what people call TR8's....

You will never find TR anything on the NGK box other then the 5's, 55's, and 6's..

Thats partly incorrect...No such plug as a TR7

Tell them you want the NGK 3526's but in Iridium (if they even offer that) He'd prolly have to cross reference it for you.

I use the 5671A's to pull the plug out of the chamber even more to keep detonation to an even more less likely occurance because of too hot of porcelain.

I just got off the phone with NGK, the cross reference for the BP7EFS in an Iridium is a TR7IX and stock number is 3690.. price is $9.00 per plug at my local Napa Autoparts store and they are special order only.. is that price inline with what you have found?

Thanks Guys!

well.. yes... but the part number Harlen posted above is what the standard TR7 would be.. but is listed in NGK as his post states.. (BP7EFS stock # 3526) the cross reference to the iridium version of this plug is the TR7IX.. so far I found that SDCE has them for 6.99 a plug which is 2 bucks cheaper then my local parts distributor.

I've been using regular TR8's.

Z8's might be using TR8's, but I'm not sure. He has a 20-25psi LT1 setup.

Your car must not have been running then...Those are magical plugs!

both of these will fit our cars

http://www.ngk.com/results_cross.asp?pid=7317&x=0&y=0

But neither plug references TR anything like the most common TR6 does on their page....

The interweb is your friend. Please spread correct information.

Hence post #4 where I specificed TR7 Iridium (a.k.a. TR7IX)http://www.ngk.com/results_cross.asp?pid=3690&x=62&y=5
. Boy did I ever get owned by you . He wanted to know what plug he could go to...I mentioned one for him to consider. I think I accomplished that.

My apologies. I was trying to set the others straight and after re-reading your statement you did clearly say Iridiums.

My bad.
