Thankyou Tony, theres a diff in being curious and wanting to see it from the other side...and just being a jackass.

Longrange....The price definitely gets closer when we add up tranny and motor and upgrades. In fact, and i know i dont have a mass produced kit,but ive got less into my kit than an STS kit and its my DD with a forged motor.Anyways,i was just curious...always nice to try something different.Nick

Tony... thanks

Ford: I will, and with pictures too so that others can learn from my mistakes and victorys. I sat down and added it up the other day, had I done it all once:

It would all have cost me about 14k... now however it will cost me about 17k-18k. Cost of having to do some things twice. The wrap plan I have will cost close to 1k by itself. (That is with a bult 408 and 76MPS or GTS turbo... 83lb fuel setup etc...)

Nick: I hear ya. Some of us dont know enough when we are getting into this to home grow a kit. That is why I would like to build a high HP rearmount kit that is availble through one of our sponsors in a "kit" form (for us initially inept folks)

Ok all... back to subject: What do you think? Stainless steel all the way back wrapped or stick with mild stuff? I want it to last once I coat and wrap it all... I have heard of the steel becoming brittle once wrapped... dont want to shoot peices of steel through my Turbo.

aluminized or stainless for the Y and I pipe. Plus, it will be coated before anything else is done. Jared, we can have it double coated too.

does anyone know the effects of the wrap on coated headers and y-pipe. i dont want to hurt the metal - its too expensive. the rest of my exhaust is stainless.

Yes it will help it rust. Seen it happen because chances are good the headers were mass coated.

Means many sets done at one time.

Mass production type coatings..

the coater I used is more personal with his stuff. I swear he makes love to them after they are polished. LOL He hand polishes them when hes done. Ive never had a flaky job from him either. not once have i seen rust forming under the coating. hes damn good.

does the climate you drive in contribute to the rust/weaking of the exhaust or just the condensation passing through the system? I mean if you drive in the rain or snow a lot does that contribute more to exhaust rot?

So was delta-T sayin paint the headers/exhaust THEN wrap or vice-versa? Will a can of 2000* stuff work? And does ceramic coating help as well?

That was a good thread.

Yea I thought so too.... He was saying Spray after wrap to seal. I think everything helps...

My logic works as this.. (Scary I know)

Ceramic coating - 20% better heat retention
Header wrap - 20% better heat retention
Ceramic batting - 40% better heat retention

So combined we should see at least 60% better heat retention (I dont think its actually cumulative).... I just pulled those numbers out my ****, but I am sure you get the point.

You will probably have the first fastest rear-mount F-body, but if you keep taking too long, I don't know... Some other STS dude might take it first and keep it.

J/K but don't take TOO long.

I just ordered a 24" x 25' roll of the aluminum faced ceramic insulation so i'll have a lot left when I'm done if someone wants to split the roll with me. I should have it by next monday.

There is probably enough material in 1 25 foot roll to do 3+ cars.

I'll let you guys know my results after I get it installed.

Hey guys, there was a thread a while back by Zombie about LT's vs stock manifolds for remote mounted turbos. If I decide to go with an STS should I keep my stock 01 manifolds? If manifolds are better it would seem like a better idea than trying to wrap the headers and dealing with rust. Not to mention the money you'll save.

if you put header wrap on a ceramic coating it will **** it up rather quickly.. i dont know why but it did put rust on my collectors on my jet hot coated lts when i used it to stop header bang..

Step brother said the weight on the headers where 30lbs and the Y was 20 thats 50lbs!!! Im glad there where free I will stick with SS for now.
