Well Todd, and I have heard other folks say that before, that makes no sense. These cars are now on their 2nd or 3rd owners. I guess you must not be too familiar with the 5.0 Mustang scene.

There is a scene. Sure it won't be buying 2000 kits a year but I'm sure that a couple hundred folks would buy good turbo kits from shops that are professionlly run.

Looks like $5000 -$6000 is leading the way..............I don't really believe it's possible to design and produce a complete high quality production twin turbo system for that money (maybe $6000 is possible)...........maybe a complete intercooled turbo system less the fuel system (injectors and fuel pump), just my thoughts on the issue.

Agreed, I think somewhere in the 7-8K range for a complete system.

I would rather pay more for a kit, than pay less and get shitty service, delays, poor parts.

I voted 6-7k based on what PSJ speced out. But for me I can't afford a new turbo kit anyway. Have to stick with used route.

"$5,000 tops..."

With fuel system? That is just not realistic. If it was there would be 4-5 companies mass-producing kits at that price.

I really don't want to see members putting price before quality and customer service. That's how folks have been acting since 1999 in this scene, and that's why we have these lame situations where turbo shops take 6-8 months to deliver kits and then go out of business.

NOt real world, your labor is a huge amount of the cost of a system. If I weld 1 kit or 100 the labor per kit is the same. You can only work so fast.
I am looking at a quality kit.

I think turbo shops don't in general do a good job to figure out their total cost per kit, and underprice stuff too much.

But yes, it's also true that if shops do all their own fab work, the pricing could be lower since there is no surcharge to getting some of the stuff made.

Default Turbo Kits

I don't understand why more people don't find a quality fab shop and get custom kits built.....I know it's a little bit more expensive, but the end result seems to always fit better than a kit, and you can specify whichever components you want. Not to mention the fact that there's less of a chance of being ripped off or waiting too long for a kit. I have a 5.0 Mustang, so there were a ton of kits out there, but after seeing so many horror stories from other people, I opted to get a custom kit. 100% satisfied with mine.

Thats another problem FINDING a quality shop. That in itself is another challenge.

Like I posted before, I think Hellion turbos outsources some of the exhaust components to a major exhaust system manufacturer, just as LG does for his headers. Is the buy in too much??

You're right, I'm probably spoiled in that regard, because there are probably 4 or 5 local shops that can do it in the Detroit area. I chose the Stenod shop for mine.

I know the Hellion kits fit great though, I saw one installed on an 03 Cobra up here.

I'd like to see an underhood kit around $7k that uses a T67 or T70 turbo, cast manifolds (less crack prone), front mount intercooler and retain the A/C. I don't know if that is possible, but that is what I'd like to see. I don't think a fuel pump, boost gauges, fuel injectors or a tune would be included in a turbo kit.

-Wastegate(s)

-Hotsides

-Couplers, clamps, fittings
-Oil lines, scavenge pumps etc.
-Intercooler(s)
-Down pipe
-Assume everything is coated

What is a fair price for something like that? Let's assume that this is a 500-700 HP kit.
I voted 5-6k for THIS kit.. Looks like a lot of people are voting for different kits. I voted using what is listed here. There is no fuel parts or boost controllers listed ect.

Also a lot of people are talking about custom kits which are usually fitted to your car and installed as well. Its hard to get accurate results imo when people are talking about totally different kits..

I would say more it cost more for a more complete kit. i.e, fuel system, gauges ect..

I didnt read the entire post so someone may have already stated this.

$4-5k for single turbo kit ONLY is reasonable (you buy your own fuel system and tuning)

and

$5k-6k for twin turbo system ONLY... again, just the turbo kits, customer can get their own fuel system, tuning, etc.
