POLL: What do you think is a fair price for a turbo kit?
Tell us what you think a fair price for a turbo kit is.
Let's assume that kit in question has:
-Turbo(s)
-Wastegate(s)
-Blowoff
-Hotsides
-Coldsides
-Couplers, clamps, fittings
-Oil lines, scavenge pumps etc.
-Intercooler(s)
-Down pipe
-Assume everything is coated
What is a fair price for something like that? Let's assume that this is a 500-700 HP kit.

I said between 5 and 6k since it seems we are talking about an off-the-shelf (single) kit. Twin kits would probably be in the 6 and 7k range. I am assuming thse kits are quality metal/welds/coating/turbos/etc....all parts are top shelf items. Mass produced kits like those can be sold for less I am guessing. Custom turbo kits would cost a bit more factoring in the fabrication/labor time of the hot/cold piping.

7-8. you get what you pay for.
you say 500-700 hp kit. a t76 will support up to 1100 hp. you cant put one t60 on an ls1. itd choke. so you need a properly sized turbo, which will net you much more than 500.
regardless, of single vs twin, i feel the 7-8g range is proper. the vette tti kit retails for 10g, but thats because of cast manifolds as well as the vette tax. with those 2 outta the equation, i feel 7-8 is in line.
i dont see how you could even gather all the parts/pipes/etc for under 4-5 g (assuming you didnt collect **** off ebay that is either used/made in china).

silicon hoses, vband clamps, braided lines for oil, fittings, flanges, stainless, aluminum, wastegate and flanges, bov and flanges, vacuum lines, turbo, intercooler. Youd be really hard pressed to do it under 4g for quality name brand parts. i can use a silicone hose off ebay, i choose not to for a reason.

Seeing that I am in this industry. Between 4-5 is a good amount for the single setups. I have built some kits in the past and are doing it agian. I am working on some setups for the f-body's right now. Trying to include the most important things that you will need with keeping quality in mind. Offering mild steel or stainless also factors into the price of the kit. I will be offering both...some people like the look of stainless. In the end its all up to what is in the kit and how well it performs.
Custom kits...now those are fun to work with.

After seeing what Phamspeed did and charged...if they had made it go above the K member and you used Alum cold side kits there is no reason that a kit cant be done for ~$4k.And im not talking cheap **** either. The OBX fmic is the only thing that i consider to be cheap about my setup other than the couplers which i cheaped out on,im changing that now.
My original pham kit was ~$2500 came with WG,BOV all flanges
i swapped to a T76GTS thanks to Jose@FI
Coated shorty headers...$350
got the OBX FMIC for $250
got the Alum cold side kit
add $150 for Tbolts and couplers
$50 for the Vband for the DP
add silicon vacuum lines i bought so figure $3800-3900.All prices were shipping including. So i could see $4000ish but consider that theyre cost would be less because they'd buy in bulk.A good quality kit doesnt have to kill your bank account.

Turbo, intercooler, wastegate, BOV, pipes, turbo oil plumbing, headers, hoses and clamps, turbo flange, injectors, and $200 tune and that is where i sit.
I dunno about cost of the vband clamps and such. I guess i jsut have counted most of the obvious ****. I got a griffin radiator and new electric fans for hte turbo too. Then the gauges. Those things i haven't taken into account.
I figure it should compare to, but still be a bit more, then a quality supercharger kit with the similar options.
If my design comes out well, im taking it to a local machine shop, and seeing how much they will reproduce all the hot side for. Then sign a contract into production (so they MUST have parts out in a certain time frame from when a order is placed) and begin spitting them out. But that is for the lt1 crowd.
But if i do that i will only be dealing the hot side the rest will have to be done by the purchaser (the easy stuff like cold side, BOV, and oiling of the turbo). Should be one of the most affordable turbo setups available (just there is some stuff you must do on your own).
This will have to be done on a different car then mine though because of my radiator being in a different spot than stock. I will try to retain A/C and all.

when u are a dealer for the parts of turbo's it is crzy how cheap u can get most parts. there is no reason u couldn't do a kit for 4k or slightly under. if u pay 5,6,7k for a single kit, 50% or more is in labor. i've built for myself and sold kits hints my 4k and under state ment

Too many variables but I do feel you should be able to make a 'quality' steet kit for ~$4K complete. Now a kit that can hit upwards of 700 would be more ~$7K.
I know I could build a cheap set up and get by. I will soon learn how much time/$$ it takes to build my setup complete.

I guess it also depends on if it is able to retain A/C or not. That seems to be a big issue with turbo setups lately.
If it wasnt, then everyone would just stick with the TTI kits.

I would like to see a nice front mount kit, easy install. Bacially like the ATI procharger kits, but that in a turbo. Have a few upgrades available to add to the kit off the shelf for different prices like ATI offers different sized chargers, etc. So basically the same price as an ATI kit to compete, decently easy install like ATI, available readily to ship out next day off the shelf, and off the shelf available upgrades for 4-5k ish. Then after some fuel upgrades i think getting in a kit with fuel, kit, guages for under 7k would be a great buy and have it all off the self with available upgrades.... maybe i'm dreaming. An ATI turbo kit!
