Default 78mm Y2K turbo or

Hi.

Need some help and suggestions?

I have a (stock, but will get a forged bottom and a built trans) LS1/T56 combo in my 86 Monte Carlo and I'm ready to put some more hp in the car.
My budget is about 9000-10000$, but will try to keep the cost down by doing most of the work my self but will NOT save money on parts...only the best is good enough

I have to options I'm interested in.

1. T6 flanged dual ballbearing 78mm Turbonetics Y2K unit with front mount intercooler and snow stage 2 meth-kit.

2. Whipple Supercharger Ls1 tuner kit: http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/...sp?ProdID=1230

Need some help deciding witch way to go so please give me your opinion.

because there is no feeling of when the turbo spools up and sends you into your seat.
and because supercharged cars only make full boots at full rpms.

Turbo will make more power. If you have a limited budget, don't spend the $1k on a ball bearing turbo. There's very little benefit for alot of $$$.

Well, my budget is limited at about 10000$ so there is no question about wicth turbo I'm going to get. I want boost as early as I can so I will pay what it cost.

It's not what I need, it's what I want
After talking to forcedinductions.com we decided that if I want max boost before 3000rpm and want a turbo that can make more than 1000hp, I would need a T6 flanged flanged Y2K turbo with dual ballbearing.

To reach 1000hp and make big boost by 3000rpm you wil definitely need to go with BB unit. A unit that big with standard bearings will not spool that fast.

I would say you might need some CI to help too.

I start spooling around 3200 rpm and have full boost by 3800 with my 408 and 91mm turbo.

The T80GTS will make well over 1000 hp and spool under 3000 rpm.

Thanks for all the turbo suggestions, but if (most likely) I go with turbo the choice of unit has already been made.

Isn't there any of you who like the Wipple charger?

It just seems kinda' funny that you don't know if you want a turbo or a whipple-charger, but you're abolutely sure which turbo you want if, in fact, you want a turbo.

Nope, this is a twin screw not a centrifucal

I don't know, that whipple twin screw is pretty ******* sweet. Instant full boost has to be fun as hell.

Why?
He knows exactly which turbo he wants and exactly which type of supercharger

Now if he said he doesn't know if he wants a Twin Screw, Roots, or Centrifucal and then doesn't know if he wants KB, Maggie, Whipple, ATI, Paxton, yada yada yada. Then it would be funny

Maybe it's funny but I have 2 different setup I'm interested in.
The choice of turbo unit was chosen by Jose at forcedinductions.com based on my setup and how I wanted it to perform. I'm sure I could have used a lot of other units but have used turbonetics before and trust Jose when it comes to selecting turbos.

My question was more like -what is more fun: A turbocharger or a 200cui Whipple charger?

Edit: 2002 Trans Am, that was the right way of explaining my thoughts

It's funny because a turbo and a screw-charger are worlds apart, but a 78Y2K and a GT4276 are almost the same thing. He's absolutely certain he wants a Y2K and not a GT42, but may get a supercharger instead.

It's sort of like saying that you're not sure if you want steak or oranges, but you're certain that you want valenciano not navel oranges if you, in fact, choose oranges.

The Y2K-78 is much bigger then a GT42-76 though in wheel size I believe. I may be wrong though...I will look it up in our books.
