Default sts cam selection

just bought a sts kit which cam should i go with?

Not really a solid answer to this. Ls6, GT2-3, GT-7, reverse split with mid 220's, etc.. It really depends on a few things. Do you want the most efficient? Sacrafice a little for some lope? Pass emissions?
We have used what most would say is a bad cam for a turbo; 224/230 on a 112, but we like it. We have a car in the shop now that has a 226/220 .570.564 115. It too works great and has a smooth idle.
Almost anything will improve power in the end.

sts....t67, FMIC.....8psi

its funny because i got the cam from my step dad back when i was still NA and still loved it...and it just so happened to work out great with the turbo kit as well

About how much power-loss (typical range) are we talking about with a mean aggressive cam with the sts??

I dont know if I call it mean and aggressive, but with a 224/230 .570's 112 cam, 402, stock 6.0 heads with good springs, Macs, TH-400, 12bolt, wrapped exhaust, T-70 it made 553 @ 7psi

The high lsa and overall less overlap is what makes a turbo cam a turbo cam. Avoiding reversion helps, period.

dont have to pass emissions live in michigan just want something that sounds not stock but wont hurt the boost any answers, how about you bob cause i might be coming to you for tuning you just got doing my buddies 2002 camaro- f13 tune and his car is running great for all motor.

I have never seen a power reduction by adding duration and overlap into a cam in a turbo motor. Quite the opposite, actually.

If it's front mount on meth, or a good IC, then you wouldn't... But trying to spool a larger turbo out back without wrapping is a bitch. Have you seen a difference between cams when it comes to spooling the turbo on the same car?

I haven't seen a difference in spool time. However, obviously, a smaller cam will make more power down low in the off-boost condition, so it may seem to spool faster when it really isn't. Also, some say that the turbo GN stock cam was ground on a 106 LSA to provide some overlap, allowing raw fuel into the exhaust that would then burn and spool the turbo faster. Not sure if it's true or if it works, but I've heard those guys talk about it.
