Default Nothing too exciting to talk about yet had some problems...

I ran my 98 Formula about two weeks ago, picked it right up from Speed Inc. and went right to the track. Track was super crowded and some folks oiled down the track a few times, so I only got one hit in.... that was an low 11 second pass lifting up top because my car moved around where there was still some coolant.

Ran it today, and only got one run in (low 11 @ 127). I botched up the launch, I was a bit distracted thinking about this noise I was hearing. but I spent like $160 to be there so I made a hit. Anyway, a few friends convinced me to pull the valve covers. Found that a pushrod on the driver's side had gotten next to the rocker (Y/T 1.7). Pulled the rocker, pushrod was fine. One corner of the rocker had been beat up by the pushrod but the 'cup' was fine. Put it all back together with the help of Danimal95 and it was missing. We think it has a bent valve. The metallic noise is gone, but now the car is missing. I am wondering if I found the limits of the Y/T 1.7's. I was taking the car up to 7000-7100.

Anyway, not sure I can get the car out again this year unless I can get the head pulled ASAP.

Had a nice time seeing a lot of friends at GLD; hopefully next time I can make a clean hit and run a respectable time.

I'm very willing to fix it and go run again, I like racing. I'm researching this valvetrain issue but at a minimum will be switching to different rockers, I don't see how the pushrod got out from under the rocker.

I wouldn't expect the YT's to fail at only 7100. Heck, I've pulled my stock rockers to 7200 on many occasions. The YT's are heavier though, maybe you're running out of spring and getting excessive lash in there? Pretty hard to pop the pushrod out otherwise.

I'm running a lot of spring pressure (on my AllPro heads), I'm kind of thinking that the lifters are the culprit and that maybe even one of them is collapsed. It happened right after I made a 2step hit. I remember reading in a thread somewhere where someone said that if the engine runs raggedy after a pass maybe the lifters bled down or something, I wish I could remember the link. My reccollection is that I am running Comp OE style lifters, not R's.

The Speed Inc. guys said the stock rockers would not work with the AllPros. Be that as it may, I am planning to change rockers and possibly lifters too.

Well they have seen 26psi. If I pull the heads, we will be able to see how the MLS head gaskets are doing.

Agreed on the YTs being junk but that most likely didnt cause your problems.

My lifters bleed down after every pass, I guess after eight years they are getting worn out They clatter and the car runs like crap for a couple minutes, original stock 98 rockers/pushrods/lifters @ 7000rpm..

that sucks to hear. So, officially my C6 is still quicker than your current drag car?

slap some stock rocker arms back on it (if they work) and make sure your lifter preload is set properly.

Could definitely be lifters, the stockers don't do so well with lots of RPM and high spring pressure I've been running R's for over 6 years now, no complaints at all!
