Default What year F-body to get?

Hello all!
I'm in the middle of selling one onf my vette's(2000 TR c5) so I can get another f-body to play with. I just got off the phone with Bob from EPP and have decided to go with a D1-sc kit when I get the new toy. I was going the charge the C5 I'm selling hence the user name, but I would rather play with an F-body.
My question is(Didn't want to bother Bob again)......What year would be the best to start with? I know on the vetts the fuel system changed a little from year to year, don't know about the F-body though. The D1 will be going on a 100% stock car(A4 cause of the wife). I will add mods one at a time after that ie... headers, cat-back, yada,yada,yada... I want to see what I can get from a 100% stock car. We'll see how long that will last!!LOL

Thanks,
Doug

because of the ls6 intake manifold that is. It has a slightly smaller cam however. Might be easier to do an intake swap rather than a cam swap, but I am sure you will cam it sooner or later.

Also you may look into getting a hardtop too...They are usually quite a bit lighter..

no offense to the 98' guys, but I'm sure they will tell you also if you got the choice, don't get a 98 car just because if you are going forced induction and later on you want to do an SD tune on your car, the 98 PCM isn't very helpful.

There isnt much of a weight difference between hardtop and T-top, just most hardtop cars have less options to begin with.

98 computers kinda suck but HPT has 2bar software and I ran my stock PCM to mid 9s and the car still drove like stock so its not that bad. I wouldnt pass up a super clean 98 though, but they are getting on 9 years old so real clean any-years of these are getting hard to find.

FWIW my old 2000 z28 with an A4 + ST3500 converter, mac headers w/cats and a stock P1SC setup (one of the first ATI LS1 kits ever sold) ran 11.30s with all the emissions stuff intact, stock 16" wheels (ET streets) and the only computer tuning was a MAFT and HPP3 + 38lbs injectors (LS1 edit didnt exist yet). Still one of the more fun cars I ever had and I've had a lot

I would buy a 99-up if I was to do it over. The 99-up pcms can be reflashed to 01-02 software. The 01-up have the LS6 intake and all the updated parts here and there but that wouldn't factor in to my decision since LS6 intakes can be had for $300+ anywhere. The 98's are ok but you will eventually wish you had the better resolution of the newer pcm's ve table should you go SD tune. I converted mine to a 00 pcm setup but wouldn't recommend that as it is a PITA!

Why go with an SD tune? I've heard the term before, but have no clue what it is. I've been into spray until now.

Anarchy,
Thanks for the links. I don't think I'll be needing the SD tune anytime soon.

Now, how important is having a fuel return line from the rail on a charged motor?

Depends on how much power you want. I seem to be doing alright so far without one but I don't have any power numbers for you to compare with.

I'll be starting with the D1-sc on the stock everything, then we'll see where it goes from there.

Nice vids in your sig. Have you ever tried OXY+ Acetylene balloons?

Doug

PS. Now I just saw TRT's stage 3 f-body kit.......and I like it!!!!!ALLOT
