OK. I know most of the questions in this thread are install related. But I have a question of a different sort. I am NOT going to do my own install, I know it is way over my head. My question is does the STS kit you order have everything you need or is there more parts needed other than minor stuff? Also what do I need to do to the car before having it installed?(headers, exhaust, cam, whatever) This summer I want to do exhaust and stuff, next summer the turbo.
Also a shop quoted me $2400 for install and dyno tune. Does that sound about right?

Answered most of my own questions. I know it doesn't include everything I need. But what else is needed and about how much? I know I should just keep my exhaust like it is now- manifold, y-pipe, catback. As far as the cam, is it really needed? I'm looking for around 425 rwhp. it will be a street car that may see a track a few times a year for ***** and giggles only, but no real competition. Has anyone had one installed and tuned, if so how much.
I'm starting to think that for the power i am wanting i may be better off doing NA and just do internals( cam, heads, intake, ect.) or just buy a crate motor.
But watching these STS videos on here is making me want to see what they are giving for kidneys. You only need one right??????

That's an expensive install and tune price if you ask me. Don't do headers or exhaust! That would be a waste of money with an STS kit. You can easily get that kind of power (425rwhp) with the base kit on a stock car if you are an M6. You're going to want more though...
Oops! I see that you are an A4. You will need a couple of things over the base kit to get to the power you want. Search on these forums, because alot of people have done it. You could go bigger turbo, intercooler, meth injection, heads, cam or any combination thereof. Also wrap your exhaust (see the STS wrapped exhaust thread).

Verdad Gallardo You won't need a BOV so that will save you some money. Keep the stock manifolds for sure. TRT charged me like $350ish for a dyno tune, plus they did a crap load of other stuff (fixing what I did wrong) for a very reasonable price IMO. Expect most places to charge ~$500 for a dyno tune. $1900 seems awefully overpriced for install though.
I would go FMIC via TRT ~~$800 or something I think. The kit does come with everything but you'll find that corners were cut and upgrades will be wanted/needed.
TRT also sells a custom cam, dual patriot valve spring and chromoly push rods in a nice package, which should yield you somewhere around 40rwhp. It's a "mild" cam also, so I would get that done before you do the turbo so they can tune it all at once and not double charge you.
For the money, keep your stock heads, they'll be just fine for what you're trying to accomplish. Our cars IMO are not meant for the track

i agree with checking into TRT. Theyll set you up nicely. PM them about their custom cams.
Well I spent about 3 hours reading stuff about them on this website last night, until I almost went blind. Still didn't get to all of it. I think I came up with as many questions as answers.
But it will be next summer before I will probably have the money to do the turbo. Everything I have read says to have alot more money than I think I will need.
So this summer I just don't want to spend money on items that won't help me in the long run, such as the headers. Thanks for the info guys.
Does anyone know of any good books on this subject. I have learned an incredible amount off this website, but it's usually someone asking a quick question and then someone else giving a quick answer without really elaborating. I would like to read something a little more detailed.

Im up to like $7500 with FMIC, turbo upgrade to GT67,Bumper, BOV, plugs wires, shifter, SLp y, all the little add ons to get the kit to work right, Valve springs, Valve tool, Fuel pump, Injectors, wideband AEM, boost guage etc. Then you still have tuning. This list could be endless. But I am still happy with the way Im going!!
Bov Where is everyone mounting there blow off valve? I've seen many cars with the bov mounted near the intake manifold, but in the sts instalation booklet it has it before the MAF. Is there any significant gains from mounting it one place or the other?
