some great ideas here wow! you guys make this stuff look oem in appearance!
I am attemping my own version of this. using a my current Griffin Lt1 full size replacment. summit part 6-593AE-GAX. I have considered the 25241 mentioned earlier in this thread, but worried it wont cool my car. It's in the sig, a 6.5L Diesel. the rad is currently in the factory location, just stood up a hair. so i have to work with what i got.

my question is can i move this rad forward, and lower? not worried about the fans, prob use two pushers on the front.

turbo is rear mounted and this winter is getting moved up front. It's a larger turbo as well, I need all the room I can get. I have good fab skills, is it doable?

I have no A/c exchanger or anything else in the way. no need for IC either, using meth injection.

thats what i did, i run a griffin 27 x 19. instead of the 27 x 15.

dude Kurt...your how-to thread is great! finally a shortcut for some of the best threads at ls1tech. thanks is an understatement.

ok, well I thought I would update from my last post. I went ahead with the radiator relocation with the Griffin oem replacement radiator in my 94. It wasn't easy. I had to cut out the upper AND lower core support and build my own. here's a pic when it was near done.

this is a FULL size radiator and a 6.5 big-block engine

Same one that was mentioned earlier on this thread. The first one I recieved was warped badly. Summit sent another out without question & it was good. It has been cooling really good so far but it isn't hot here now.

The first puller fan got overheated from the turbo. I have a blanket on the turbo now & a heat shield, no probs since.
Man, i'm new to the turbo game and my turbo talk may be a little off, so please bear with me. When you're talking about a "puller fan", is that the fan that sits on the front grille side of the radiator? If so, that's what I have on mine. I haven't driven my car yet to test the cooling of the setup, but I always wanted to know if that fan does the job. My car is in the process of being tuned now, should get it back any day now.

Pusher fan that pushes air, because it mounts to the front of the radiator and push air through the radiator.
Puller fans pull air, because the mount to the backside of the radiator and pull air through the radiator

Pushers aren't as effecient as a puller, particularly when the puller has a shroud on it.

I originally was going with a huge pusher, but the nose looked so damn purty' i decided to do a puller setup, haha.

I need to get some updated pics of mine. We finished up the mounts for the lower and the upper on the radiator. That bitch aint going anywhere, haha.

I bought a Summit Racing Radiator and fan shroud setup. The radiator is 19.5"in tall though. Here are a couple pics:

I have read this thread start to finish about 3 times now preparing to fix mine. But the one thing that isn't covered is where people are getting the upper shrouds from. Lots of them look like polished bought pieces not home made tabs.

Mine is made out of brushed stainless. Home made(using equipment @ my buddies work)

I dont think you will have any luck buying one, because they are all done a little different. The one that works for me, unless you make the same bottom brackets, and cut the same amount ect wont work for you. Good luck, Chris

Any of you guys having cooling issues? I did the vertical radiator a while ago and I'm still chasing cooling problems on my SBC. Are you guys running stock style recirculating over flows or just catch cans?

I can't get my radiator to hold the coolant with out it blowing out the catch can. I thought it was a headgasket, head issue but there is no CO in the coolant or anything making it's way into the chamber.

Just wondering if any one else ran into something similar.

I'm running the stock canister. I had issues first with my fans, but switched to a 92 Taurus single puller fan and it runs not hotter than 187*
