Trickflow 220/224 cam for turbo?
Hey guys, getting my parts together for this turbo build and realize that my 233/239 on 112 TSP cam ain't going to cut the mustard...
With that said the Trickflow 220/224 on 112 lsa (don't recall icl) cam looks to be a great choice. I know people constantly regurgitate the reverse split mantra on here but I can pick one of these up for close to the price I'll get for my used cam. It has -2 degrees of overlap and looks like it will still be small enough to be fun when I'm not in boost (which will be rare I'm guessing )
Car will be a 346/TH400 with a custom ST80 front mount 6.0L manifold kit. I will be running this thing @ around 10 psi until I go forged shortblock, then I'll be running 16-17 lbs or so. Let me hear your ideas.
Thanks,
Marty

no one really knows the ideal turbo cam. EPP uses one that no one would think would work great. Speed incs uses a 225/225 115 I am using a 222/224 114 NA cam and made 600 rwhp with only 348 cubes at only 9 lbs boost so yes that cam will work pretty good.

I havn't turned the wick up anymore yet. The motor is brand new right now. The numbers it made was impressive. I have talked to DrTurbo in regards to the limits of my TC76MPS and they should be around 850 rwhp on race gas with 348 cubes. So only if you plan on going higher than 850 rwhp then you should save a little money and get the TC76MPS. I drove the car with 600 whp and don't really see a need to turn up the wick right now. They did not even do a full pull to redline it made those numbers at only 6000 rpms I have the redline set a 6500. Hope that helps your decision. How much power do you wish to make once you are forged?

I don't really care how much power it puts to the rollers (TH400 car) I would just like to run 9.60's @ 14X on good gas. I have looked at all the calculators, they all say 750 rwhp but I don't really know what it will take to put a 3200 lb raceweight car to run that number with a turbo setup.
Thanks for your response and hopefully you figure out your smoking issue.

Thanks! We gave the turbo back to Turbonetics and hopefully they find a faulty seal. We could not think of anything else that would cause such a bad smoking problem. It has to be the turbo. For you I would probibly spend the extra 500 bucks and get the ST80 since you are shootin for 9's, but might want to discuss it with Jz and DrTurbo first though. Good luck!

my car is being finished this week... i went with a 220/224 on 115
i wanted bigger, but this cam seemed liek a good choice as to not go too big, but still make good power.... i don't even have the car together adn i wish i had gone with a little bigger cam... but o well... maybe down the road

INTMD8 did alot of cam testing on his twin turbo LT1 and everytime he added overlap, it gained power. He also tried a reverse split and threw it in the garbage.
Also, there was a GTO a while back with a single T76. It made over 600 rwhp with low boost (6 psi?) with a big cam like yours. I'll see if I can find the post. . .

Okay, found it:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-induction/678711-my-04-gto-76mm-set-up.html
346 cid, TSP heads, 232/234-112 cam, T76, 6 psi boost: 640 rwhp
That cam isn't too far from your 233/239 and he made astounding power with only 6 psi boost.
