I'm gonna fire up my Procharged Firehawk tomorrow. the engine is stock and I want to run higher octane till I can get low compression heads on there.
My question is what's the best way to boost octane?
Is going to Pep Boys and buying one of those 110 octane booster bottles as good as buying 100+ octane race gas at the track? What's the difference?
If the off the self bottles will do the job which brand do you guys suggest?
Thanks,
BH

nope....that stuff only raises a couple "points" (ex: 91 up to 91.5) and it costs as much as a gallon of 104 octane unleaded fuel.
You can "drive" your car on lower octane....just don't push it hard (should not anyways....give everything time to "break in".... Just take a nice easy cruse out to the strip with a 5 gals can. Put one or two gals in the tank and take the other 5 gals home to use throughout the week.

Here ya go:
http://www.torcoracefuels.com/Mach%...%20Page%201.htm
It works!
One can (32 oz) of TORCO RAce Fuel additive will turn 93 octane:
20 gals into 97 octane,
10 gals into 104 and
5 gals into 107
I think it was $12.95/can when I got it, but buying a case of 6 dropped it about $11.95/can.

Link didn't work. I'm trying to navigate the page, but I'm not sure which race fuel is the one for my car.
Am I looking for Mach 100UNL, 104, 110, 112, 114, ....?

I think you will find the easiest and cheapest way to prevent detonation until you get your new low compression heads is to keep your foot out of it.

Torlene or Xlelene is about the same price per gallon (actually a little more) than race gas
i run a 30% mixture with about 4oz of tranny fluid/gallon on xylene
7gallons of 92@$1.70 + 3 gallons of xylene for $4.00 = $2.39/gallon for 99.5 octane.
it definately works! 6psi max non intercooled is all i can get on 92 without KR, i am up to 9psi with the xylene mix and see no KR. i have ran about 70gallons of the stuff thru my truck so far this year.
i like the torco idea but it is hard for me to believe that such a small amout of fluid could treat so much fuel. i may have to try some of that stuff and see how it works, it is real easy to see if the fuel can handle the job, just pull out on the street and floor it for a second and see if there is any KR.

TORCO works.
The only anomaly I've seen with it is an orangish coloration to the spark plugs. But, no fouling.
The first time I went to 12 PSI with no headers on my stock engine, I got audible detonation. I put 1/2 can of Torco in about a 3/4 full tank and after 5 mins of driving I punched it.
No detonation.
