Looking for 2nd opinions.... Forced Induction camshaft selection...
I had a customer in my shop last week with a ProCharged C5 Z06... Car made 577rwhp on another dyno in Atl with another tuner... This was with stock internals and stainless longtubes...
Car comes to me.. only changes are custom camshaft/boost a pump.. Camshaft is from another sponsor on here. Specs are 227/233 .650/.600 115LSA... Car made 501rwhp on our dyno.. Needless to say, the customer is extremely dissapointed with the final results....
Boost=5lbs with new camshaft
Air fuel=11.5:1
Timing=19* @ WOT
Any comments on this camshaft? I have my own opinion, but without voicing it, I would like to see what others have to say.....

Ron.. From what I have read, the stock z06 cam seems to be a REALLY nice FI cam..
Alot of people in f-bodies are using the Z06 cam when they go FI!
Just from what research I have read!!!

I run a procharged setup and a very moderate cam 224/232 .581/.595 114LSA
Cam has worked excellent and has a good lope!!
The above cam seems very strange to me .650/.600 seems wrong... should be reversed
Going from a 119LSA to a 115LSA should not bleed off that much boost

I agree I was going to go with a comp 224/228 .581/.588 114 LSA, I have talked to a guy who used this in stock cubes, big cubes, s/c and turbo applications and it worked well. I am going differenet route now, and it sits NIB in gargage. I am sure I won't have trouble getting rid of it though. Good luck!

It could be weather and dyno variation alone, but you know the customer doesn't want to hear that.
I worked on a car Saturday that was ALSO a procharged Z06 exactly the way yours was before the cam (mods wise) that ALSO put down 575rwhp at the same amount of boost on a 50deg day. Saturday it was about 90 and the car was down to 530rwhp but with a 40ft/lb hit in tq and the mods are the same as they were on that cooler day. ALL of this is on the SAME DYNO WITH CORRECTION! Customer wanted to be aggressive with meth (he only really drives to race and runs hi octane fuel then) so we upped the meth, worked the fuel, and tossed about 3 degrees of timing on and got all of the 40ft/lbs of tq back from his previous high, but HP still settled in around 555. All of this was on a dynojet. I spoke with him later and asked him if it felt better now and he said OH YEAH.

ron you use a DynaPack 5000 right? My friend owns a DynaPack 5000 as well, and we dyno many many cars that have just come from a Dynojet ... and typically we see that most are showing a 4-5% loss on ours.. ask him what dyno he used and what conditions they did..(pre-loading the suspension and all that)..
BUT
considering you are asking a Cam question.. i think his exhaust duration and intake lift are killing his #'s.. but thats my un-educated guess..

our mustang dyno would easily read 501RWHP while on a dynojet it would be higher.
a quick example: one of our customers dynoed 470RWHP on a dyno jet and 400 on our mustang

That car originally made 577 on 5psi? Isn't that on the high side for a procharged LS6 with stock cam? 500rwhp sounds about right for that boost and that cam. Did he show you the 577 chart? How high did you spin the motor?

Did you try more timing?If there is no boost leaks I would add timing to 21 degree's and see if power jumps alot.The Cam could be wrong,on a 112 duration or something that is bleeding boost.
Case in point -had a customer do a 228 on 112 Cam for NA.Year later he wanted a procharger but keep that cam.Ordered the ussual P1 with 4.0 pulley that ussually makes 8lbs of boost. Got the car on the dyno with the ussual SC tune and the car made the exact hp as before with a whopping 2lbs of boost. I ended up adding 8-10 degree's of timing against my judgement but it worked.Gained 140rwhp with just timing.So,140rwhp with 2lbs of boost

Couple of answers.....
-We use a DynoJet 224X
- Spinning the motor to 6800rpm
-Boost was in the 8 to 9lb range before. Car was previously dyno'd on a 224X local to our shop. Tuner is very questionable as far as fluffing the results.
- We ran 19 total, because on the street (Prior to the dyno) it knocked with anything more in it... It was 104* outside FWIW
Just looking for others opinions on this particular camshaft... We have NEVER used anything that big, with that much lift on such a small motor with boost before.
Thanx for all of the responses so far. Customer is putting in a MUCH smaller cam and coming back for more tuning. We will see what happens.

Sure it's not just valve float with that 650 lift on the intake side? What spring is on it? 575-stock Z06 with 9 psi and headers is pretty common. On my Z06 I dropped down to 317 heads with a 222/228 cam on a 113 with a P1SC and made 600 rwhp at 9 psi and lower compression.
