Default keying the crank?

I purchased a low milage 408 fully built (all lunati internals) that has had some obviouse sings that the balancer has spun on the crank snout ( Which was not mentioned). Anyway my question is this: The crank has been pinned Im assuming this was after it had already spun, I have an ati balancer that I will be using which has the square keyway. Is this something that will work? can you cut a keyway on the opposite side of the crank snout?
I am looking at any remedy or ideas you all may have I just hope Im not assed out the whole crank. This is somthing that can still be used correct? If not is it fixable and how much? I will try to get some pictures up.
Thanks
Brian

I wish I could answer that question for you but I don't think it would be a problem keying it on the other side. Glad to see that Joe pulled though, I thought he would as he didn't seem like the guy to do that. I haven't talked to him since I posted back to you weeks ago as we used to shoot the **** every once and awhile but was curious what was gonna happen. So congrats on the 408, I too am getting a 408 built for me right now. I am slapping on a 80GTS though. Good luck with your build as mine is gonna be quite sometime as it will be done. Winter project here I come.

my 347 is toast thanks to a bad builder the only thing worth anything is the lunati billet rods and even then one was bad. yeah joe came through but I was definatly starting to wonder. I can tell you this I dont think I would purchase anything from him agian but he is a good guy. Maybe he just had alot of issues at the time but 2 months is way to long to wait just for him to ship it, then there was problems with that.

The worst part is I really loved that motor and there was so much potential. It had a low 10 in it if things were dialed in. Not just that but it was so mild, a great combo.

Do you have a picture of how bad it is? Take it to a machine shop, and have them measure the snout to see if its ok. Bring the ATI hub with the crank and let them measure for the interference fit.
My balancer spun on my crank, and I had to buy a new crank, and have a machine shop take the motor apart. I hope you dont have to go through all that after buying what was supposed to be a motor that is ready to go.
I guess because its a turbo setup and not a blower setup, you might be able to get away with it. A keyway on the other side would be a good idea, but no matter what you use if the balancer becomes loose, it will beat anything out after a while.

If its still in the car, easiest option is to double pin it.. Essentially it gives you 2 round keyways, instead of square ones. Quite easy to do with the engine in place.
