Default 408 sts with no cats way to loud..What muffler do you sts guys run?

My car sounds like a dragster and I'm sure my neighbour hates me when I start it up at 6am.

I went to the exhaust shop today and the wanted to sell me an aero turbine to put after the turbo. I've never heard of it, they any good? They wanted close to $200.

Sounds like he's just recommending a particular muffler.

I've got an oval XR-1 after mine, takes a little edge off but it's still loud.

That Aero turbine thing looks HUGE! It would definitely be interesting to hear.

I've got a Borla XR-1 too, after the turbo. It is still loud, but a lot less raspy than before.

Sure thing.. The reviews are really good on it , but it's from turbo diesel and a few trailblazer ss guys.

What size borla did you guys use?

Did it quiet down or get rid of some exhaust rasp?

I have the shortest Borla XR-1 oval (12"?). To my ears, it removed the rasp, made it quieter, and now sounds like a strong cat-back. Note: I also put a turn down on it so it points to the ground, which also helped make it quieter in the cabin.

Recently put a muffler in-line before the turbo on my STS car. Sounds better, but now I can hear the f*cking oil pump.

Dynamat city.

I put a 16" on mine.

It did take out some rasp and turned the volume down just a notch.

I put a turn-down on mine too.

Maybe look into a magnflow oval muffler? My cammed camaro was WAY too loud with LT's, ory, Loudmouth and I switched to a magnaflwo catback and it was nice, tame, and sounded amazing. Im sure one of their large oval mufflers would work well too and they flow almost as good as no muffler at all.

I run a bullet. Just a generic ol bullet, looks just like the dynomax. Run it. Gets rid of a lot of rasp and gives a nice clean sound with the turbo.

i installed a dynomax bullet on tailpipe --- i didnt want anything coming apart inside the muffler then flowing down stream into the turbo.. car has a very good low tone and muffler got rid of the rasp. it also go rid of the turbo whistle .. but the rasp was driving me crazy .

coming off the 3" exhaust housing step up to a 4" wide bullet 12" long in the downpipe. Weld a support returning back to the pass side exhaust hanger and youre good to go. You want that DP to flow freely with a 408. Shorter and bigger is better. I've heard borla and used to have a dynomax. Both sound good, with the borla having a little more edge to it (dyno was slightly deeper).

Thanks for all the info. Think I'm going to put a bullet in the downpipe.
Don't want something coming apart inside the muffler then flowing down stream into the turbo.

I'm doing the exhaust tomorrow. I'll put some video up after.

If the noise bothers you, try a cheap bullet muffler and a electric cutout for when u miss the noise.
