should be ok..as long as the total area is the same..

says 3x3 piping merged with a 4x2.25

same/same total area.

MECHAM,

I must be stupid today but I don't understand your answer with the 3x3 and 4x2.25?

Thanks,

Jim

except a 3" diameter tube has an area of 7.07 in.sq. and a 4"x2.25" tube has an area of 7.914 in.sq.

..because of a little thing called pi, and i don't mean apple.

doh! you beat me to it 99ssleeper

you could squeeze a 3" pipe to 2.25x3.625 and retain the same cross sectional area

To answer the original question, squeezing it should retain the same cross sectional area unless you squeeze it shut

are you talking about using those cheap bends that are mooshed in the bend or just "smooshing" a pipe in a certain area to gain a little room??

Good luck building a turbo kit with the cheap bends...

a cheap bend? you mean a crush bend?

i'm talking a squeezed section like on the original Y pipes how it's squeezed on the driver side. i was wondering on how it would do for a turbo set up if it would damage something or somthing like that

So you mean squeezed as in flattened (or ovalized), not squeezed as in crush-bent for curves?

That being said... it dosent count for disrupting the airflow if you dont maintain a smooth flow. Oval piping is fine... but if you crimp.. bend.. or distort it in a bender and it has "ripples" in the pipe.... that will disrupt the airflow... thus you will loose efficency.

Some clearance 'squishes' you'll never notice. I have seen people hammer a pipe halfway flat and wonder why it wheezed, too. If you need a lot of clearance somewhere, consider going wider in a true oval from Dr. Gas.
