Default Need suggestions for building a turbo mainfold

I could use some input on this one guys. I just got my T-76 today and I'm ready to tackle building the manifold for it. I'm going to put it on the drivers side (in my Chevy II) up around the front of the valve cover.

I'm going to go with a log style, and I'm planning on using 16ga. t-304 stainless to make it out of. Should I use a 2 1/2" log or 3"? should I go with 1 3/4" primarys? Those are my 2 main questions right now. I'm getting really pumped to get this project going!!

Here is the car and the engine bay

You want to use 321 stainless, 304 will crack from heat cycling and have to be rewelded.

Your talking exhaust manifold, right?
A slip joint between the banks will help with heat expansion.

Sorry I didn't clarify. I do mean exhaust manifold. I talked to a tech a Burns stainless today and he said he would use 304. He seems to think my exhaust temperatures won't go much over 1400* so 304 would be fine.
I think that I might as well spend the extra couple of dollars and get the 321, that way I won't have to worry about it.

Do you think I should make my crossover pipe from stainless also. I was going to use regular mild steel 2 1/2" pipe.

The pic of the motor never showed up, here goes

FWIW, I used 16 gauge mild steel for my turbo headers (and they were coated), and it's been holding up good so far.

Alot of the Mustang turbo kit manufacturers recommend mild steel for a street/strip car because it is less likely to crack.

Nice car man!
I would go 1 3/4 primaries and a 3inch log. You have tons of room there

are you going to intercool it?

Cheers,
Chris

The bigger the log the better. You have plenty of room to make two tubular headers which would flow a lot better than a log on one side with a crossover feeding it.

But if you are dead set, I agree with chris. 3".

And a 2 1/2" stainless crossover will work fine.

Good luck! Thats a VERY nice looking car.

Mild Steel is perfectly fine, just get it coated so it will hold the heat in good. Stainless tends to crack from expansion. Most cars need rewelding done form 6 mos to a year, depending how much the car is run. For a street car definetly go mild steel, just get them ceramic coated.
